First Post. Great site. That being said......I went by the yamaha dealer in Northern Georgia looking to purchase a 212x, and the dealer was telling me that one of the yamaha engineers was telling him that they are switching engines in 2017. Has anyone else heard this? If so I will postpone my purchase until seeing what happens in 2017. There might be some truth to the new engine story as the Yamaha plant is only a few miles from the dealership where I was. He was also saying it will have more horsepower and other engine technical terms I didn't understand.

Low end skis are already using the new TR1. I am unaware of any replacement for the 1.8. This is probably what he is thinking of.

We love to hear rumors....would be nice if they came up with a new higher HP engine for the boats...but only if it is also more fuel efficient and lighter!

Welcome to the club @TommyC Bringing in some Intel on your first post.....you're sure to fit right in around here. ;) I haven't a clue on newer engine configurations, but Yamaha does seem to throw a change up every now and then. Good luck with your boat shopping hope to see or hear of you being on the water in your new ride soon.

I have learned that if you are always waiting on the next model, or best thing to come out then you will never be on the water!

And more Quiet! I would totally look at trading in my 2010 for a newer one if they did an overhaul on the engines. Something with lower RPM and reduced noise!!!

I heard the same on AR192. I just put a deposit on 2017 AR192 sight unseen. We will see what is to come.

I bet you they are putting SVHOs in the new 192. That would be pretty freaking awesome.

Super Vortex High Output - Its their 1.8L supercharged 4cyl 4stroke marine engine

Most of the other recent boats have the Naturally Aspirated (N/A) 1.8L 4cyl 4stroke marine engine

The current 192 models use the SHO supercharged engine SVHO is a newer version of this. The major upgrades came in the form of upgrades to pistons (forged), bigger intercooler core, bigger boost from an improved supercharger impeller (boost wheel), 160mm impeller, pump/stater (over its predecessor 155mm variant), better engine cooling via additional cooling intake and duel bypass , and a intake grate to match.

What is the power on it? The normal 1.8 is 180. The current version in the 192's is 210 or 220, I think.

Yamaha doesn't publish those numbers I have seen listings from 250-270 hp all from reliable sources so not really sure I would assume 250 is probably closer to correct but I think the 270 number came from boattest.com I have seen 250 and 260 from other news sources.

Like @robert843 said, these are state of the art /uber SHO versions of trusty old 1.8l engine. Still tuned with relatively low compression ratio as compared to 1.8l N/A, so there is probably even more room to grow. Like SHO they are thirsty beasts! Amazing performance aside, a 240/242 with twin SVHOs would need a bigger fuel tank...

That might be enough for me to consider another 19! I really want more power for pulling people up (more top end is always welcomed as well).
