We are planning to go down to Orlando maybe around Christmas, the week after. We need to fly. 4 of us. The other two adults will be staying at home, because they don't like Theme Parks. Going back to Universal Studio's. Anyhow, I tend to fly Delta and right now the tickets are ridiculous. between $800 - $1200 on the dates we need to fly. I have been looking at Frontier and Spirt. Any thoughts? We have a lot invested in to the resort and tickets so I am worried about cancellation and having to make alternate plans.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Have you considered Amtrak and the auto train? Our youngest fly's about 6 times a month. I know he would never fly on Frontier and I believe he feels the about Spirit.

Will take to long to get there we need to do it in one day. Each way.

Dang!

That is for a train.

Frontier/Spirit are cheap but be prepared for an uncomfortable flight. I did it from Raleigh—San Diego and won’t do that again.

Have you thought about flying into Tampa or St. Petersburg? Limited air options for St. Petersburg but may be worth a look. It’s not a bad drive to Orlando from Tampa, a bit more time from St. Petersburg.

same prices.

thinking about flying Delta down and frontier back. saves about $1,400

Dang that is high. BWI to MCO is usually $400 round trip. I’d suggest looking at Southwest, no extra fees for seat or luggage. (Yes, you can pay for auto checkin). I just booked a flight to Punta Cana for 2. It was $1,800 on Southwest from BWI and $900 on Frontier from PHL. I picked Frontier. I then had to pay another $500 to pick a seat and add 1 carry on and 1 checked bag per person. I wish I just picked Southwest. It would’ve been more, but it would’ve been out of our regular airport, no extra fees, and gotten FF credits, as SW is my usual airline.

Have you looked at Southwest? You'll have to connect out of DTW which sucks..... but if you leave Xmas day or the day after and come back New Years Day its under $2400 for 4 people.

$4k for 4 people. Gotta think you can rent a suburban and a driver for that kind of cash.

I fly American when I have a choice. They have a neat website feature where you put in your preferred itinerary, and it will give you the price of tickets a few days on either side. I started with a 1/2 thru 1/9 dates below. Moving to 1/3 dropped the price from $450/person to $274/person.

If you can be flexible on dates it looks like you can get down there and back for ~$1k for all of you. The flight times aren't splendid, but they're cheap.

If you can’t go on the dates @2kwik4u posted and with the super high fares I‘d be driving…. Make it part of the fun, plan to stay somewhere or see something along the way.

I recently travelled for a funeral, driving was cheaper no matter how I sliced it, so I drove down two days there, one day there, and two days back, took the back way down to avoid Denver and it was a great drive, and even staying in a hotel for two night during the drive down and back I still came out a few hundred ahead of flying and having to rent a car.

We have driven many times to Florida, family is not interested in doing that, plus our park tickets start the next day

Dates are locked in can't be flexible wish I could

Ok we used up some AMEX points/miles and threw about $1000 cash into it and have seats on Delta.

I would only fly spirit or frontier in an absolute emergency. My old cheap-ass job would fly us on frontier or spirit when it was super cheap and they were the worst. Lots of hidden fees (carry on fee!) and the tiniest seats in the industry.
