I’m curious if anyone has figured out if it is possible to put some sort of “weather strip” under the seats to help keep water out of the storage areas. I still don’t have my Yamaha cover so I’m using the shipping cover. Every time it rains the cover drips water directly on the starboard seating area behind the drivers seat. Just trying to figure out a way to help keep the water out. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

This is a great question and is the same issue I have, even when boating out in a quick light rain. I have a 2021 sx190 and have to dry out under the seats after nearly every time we go out. Between a few pop up showers, some splashing through wakes and wet passengers getting in the boat, the water easily seems to roll right under the seats, with no seals at all. Has this always been an issue or is it the newer boats?

I'm thinking the same thing as you, some type of weather strip. I'm wondering if it'd be better on the seat bottom or on the fiberglass/gelcoat where the seat lands?

I actually tried this on my SX230HO, it turned out to be a bad idea. I used 3M backed 1/8th think 1" wide foam tape. It sealed really well. However, I soon learned that you want to have air ventilate, and circulate through those areas. Otherwise mold will grow, and rot things out. I ended up taking it out after about 3 months.

Now with the new boat, after a long day our weekend out, I usually park the boat in the sun, uncovered, with all of the hatches open to allow air to get into the boat and dry out moisture. Once everything's dry I cover.

You can kinda have a compromise if you want. I agree that mold will build up if sealed all the way. However, what I noticed is that the majority of the water tends to drip/leak under the seats towards the gunwales of the boat. So I'm going to try and add weather stripping only towards that part and leave the rest open under the seats to allow it to breathe.

My 242 has the same issue. At one point I wondered if adding a drain to the edge would help.....never did, but I wonder if the water flows to the back, builds up and overflows under the seat. Never tested this. But always wondered why the starboard stern under seat area was the one that primarily got wet.

On my boat the main issue is with the two rear seats. Any moisture on the seats runs directly into the storage compartment when you lift the seats. It seems the issue would be fixed if there was a small lip around the opening; just don’t know how to seal it. I’m not even so much worried about the starboard side, but the port side has my battery charger.
