California Compliant Yamaha Boats

Many have already left for various reasons, this is just another one.
I wish I could. I'd be gone already but I can't due to being a single parent but that whole other story. So frustrating. I found the boat that was for me and now because of this piece of shit state I gotta spend an extra 12k. heartbreaking honestly

These same people say nothing about the yachts, private jets, and hyper cars of their rich and elite though... But God forbid a mortal want to have more than their government compliant appliance.

They also want to ban ICE vehicles which would relegate people with apartments or street parking to public transit. Way to get a headstart in the race to the bottom eh?
Absolutely infuriating

I think California is a really great place and everyone that is there should stay there (please, for the love of God) and enjoy it! No idea why all of you who don’t live there hate on it so much.
I am not biased on this issue at all ;)

That $12k does get you a lot nicer boat with bigger engines, and upgraded interior/stereo, etc.

Haha I feel bad for other states getting all the crap people who voted for and created this issue here now moving. I feel they should be forcing to stay in this prison they have created. (Im not bias at all either hahaha )

I recommend reading Atlas Shrugged... I think it may give you an enlightening perspective.

In the meantime, you should be grateful you can afford the extra $12K. Go and get your boat and enjoy your life, no one is here in a second tour.

I think you shouldn't be allowed to vote in a state without 12 years of continuous residence in it, lol.

I can't really afford the extra 12K haha
But you are right about the enjoy your life, we don't get a second tour
Maybe ill try to sell an organ and get an even nicer boat haha

@RD23 What about something a year or two used? Maybe in your price range for a 212.

I know the market is super tight right now, but have you considered buying used? It's like buying new but with less dealer hassles, lower price, and more stuff fixed.

That's probably something worth noting. Buy a brand new boat isn't like a brand new car where it's never more perfect than that day. It's more like buying a really old but low mile car, where it's mostly there but needs attention to several things to be right.

@FSH 210 Sport ,I heard Newsom signed an order to ban the sale of any new gas powered vehicle by 2035. Kind of a ways off yet, but California definatly leads the zero emissions race. (Even though producing solar panels and batteries creates emissions)

Here is the easiest way to determine if a Yamaha model is available for sale new in CA. If you don’t see a California version offfered, you cannot buy one new in CA. I have yet to see an FSH or supercharged 19x in a trailer or in a showroom in CA and don’t expect to.

fyi - the 242s were introduced in 2010, the rules took effect in 2011, Yamaha didn’t make a
CARB compliant 242 until 2012 so 2011 242s were not available in CA.

So, hypothetically, if I purchased a Yamaha outside of California and had to move there I couldn't bring my boat with me?

You would need to register it as a non resident out of state. Example: AZ.

You would think they would realize they have to flee because they ruined their state with their votes but no...now they come ruin AZ. Stay in CA Californians! If you must leave maybe check out OR, WA, or NY.

I don’t even care that much about politics. I just want water to come out of my tap when I turn it on in 5 years. Our local leaders (across the southwest, to be fair) of all parties are hooked on unsustainable growth like crack.

This is incorrect. There are a few members here that have either purchased a boat outside of California or who sold their boats to a California resident. The key is to know what forms to fill out and how. The luck part comes by way of who processes your form(s) at the DMV, the smart one or the the other one.

Another possible option is what my local power sports shop does or at least did for super jets (i.e., single rider stand up / freestyle 2 stroke posted pwc/Waverunner). They would buy one “used” from out of state and sell it “used” in state. Used being the operative term, the one I saw was that years model and looked pristine not a scratch on the hull. It also came with a $2,000 “Used” price premium but still sold within a month.

I have read what I believe to be a lot of misinformation in this thread. I’m not trying to pick a fight or start a rivalry but the following topics have been discussed here and on yamahajetboaters.com before, ad nausea, so there is no need to reinvent the wheel or puncture it so to speak.

As far as I know, it’s not CA that bans specific models of Yamaha jet boats, it’s that Yamaha didn’t complete, submit an application and go through the processes of validating that certain models are carb compliant. Which is why you may see a Waverunner with a supercharged 1812 cc engine being sold in CA but not a boat of the same year with the same engine(s). I think, someone or a group of them at Yamaha did a cost benefit analysis and determined that they make more money off of waverunners than boats with the same power plant.

Also, CA can only pass emissions regulations that apply to /within the state of CA, such regulations can be more restrictive but not less restrictive than the EPA’s. It’s the EPA that has interstate jurisdiction, the problem being that the EPA has adopted many CARB regulations.

That stated, it’s not really CA’s fault. I think it’s a greet place to live but I’ve lived here most of my life and most of my friends and family are here so I’m admittedly bias. The wether is generally good. Scal being better than NCal but the rainy season in NCal is usually only three or four months long and it never gets freezing cold or snows, yet some great ski resorts are less than a three hour drive away. Wages are also generally higher than most of the rest of the country.

It’s surely not all rosy. Prices are higher (the average price of gas is $1 more here than the rest of the U.S., you don’t get a lot of house or land in many areas of CA for what you pay for it, ever see a 1,000 sq foot home/shack/fixer upper on a lot not bigger sell for a $1M+? I have unfortunately), we pay luxury taxes on our boats/pwcs, vehicle emissions regulations are out of control (if you have an older vehicle with a check engine light on / bad catalytic converter, you are genuinely concerned when a successful smog test is a prerequisite to registering the vehicle). Sales tax in many counties is close to 10%. Etc., etc. overall I still love it here and only got jealous recently when I visited a relative who lives in a Seattle suburb. Her home is less valuable than mine but is much bigger and newer and it sits on over an acre not just a part of one. I noted that she has more trees in her backyard than my whole neighborhood does collectively.

Just an FYI, my 2021SE has 4-star engines. When I asked the dealer what the difference was between the 3 and 4 star, he said CA regulations. I looked at mine, I have no idea where the cat is if it has them. I didnt see an EGR either. Whats next, a smog check? F CA.

Again though, this is CA. Look at Powell and Mead, these lakes can’t fill with average to above average snowpack for the past 10 years. It’s because they pump so much of the Colorado into L.A. and the salton sea. We’re all pulling from the same water source so regardless of whether the Californians are here, NV, or CA, water is already a problem. It’s the idiotic carb laws, gun laws, building regulations, unreasonable living costs, etc. that I worry about coming here.

I lived in CA for 8 years and still have many family members there. We moved to the east coast and still very much miss CA, but the Bay Area really got to us and we needed to get away from the dense urban insanity just for our peace of mind/sanity. (And I grew up in IL/Chicago!) CA is beautiful, amazingly diverse, and lots to do. We just couldn't handle urban living anymore. Thought about moving up north to Sonoma / Napa area and be close to other family members, but it just wasn't feasible. Hoping we can actually get back out that way for a visit later this year.
