Carpenter bee problem...

New trailer... carpenter bees and boring into the back of my bunks... anyone know how to stop them..

Huh....not thought about them boring into the bunks! Perhaps buy some carpet and staple it onto the backs too?

I hate those bees! I have them around my patio and they drive me nuts. I've tried all the crazy remedies with no success. I'll be watching this for ideas.

When you get rid of them @bronze_10 please don't send them over my way. Maybe this calls for a dip in the lake.

In all seriousness maybe call an exterminator and see if they have any ideas.

I read that bees don't like painted wood as much.. maybe I'll get a brush and paint the exposed part

I had these around a play house I built in my back yard they were boring holes all over it. I filled the holes painted it with wood sealing paint apparently they do not like it as they left right after I did that and have not returned that was two years ago. This was a remedy I saw somewhere else and it worked great for me. Not sure how that would work out on bunk boards though but maybe worth a shot.

Ugh, I painted all the wood with deck restorer paint, filled the old holes with wood putty, put out bowls of vinegar, swung at them with a whiffle ball bat...

They just keep coming back. Maybe spraying the exposed wood with plasti-dip or something would deter them?

I'm looking to try and see what paint I used but I can't find it. I know it was a BEHR product and it was a colored wood sealant I used a yellow and a red. I know I had to paint every square inch including the underside if there was any exposed wood at all I knew they would stick around.

I just had some in my garage boring into my bench. I sprayed the holes with bee spray and that was that.

I like carb cleaner spray I have near the boat.. hut it's when I am not out there that I am worried about it.

I read that this little trick works for wasps, maybe for bees as well?

They think it is a hornet nest and won't stay in the area. It's a brown paper bag with plastic bags or something inside.

Maybe switch to Ultimate Bunk Boards. They have their pluses and minuses though too. You could also put carpet over the UBB's

We have them attacking our Rainbow playset because its made of redwood.

Holes all over. The males have a yellow face, they dont sting. The females have a black face and they'll do whatever they need to to defend their larvae. Be careful around them, their stingers hurt. Ive begun filling the holes (empty or not) with Liquid Nails adhesive. I trapped a female after she went into the hole and two days later i heard her munching wood in an attempt to burrow out. Creeped me out. Ive killed several males and females with a badminton racket (you can get really fast racket speed with them). I guess in order to get use out of our set we'll have to paint it.... That sucks since the wood is beautiful.

Asked my wife as she is a manager for an exterminating company. She hasn't heard of any home remedies that always work. They are a real problem because people try the painting and other options but don't realize the larvae are already in the wood and they just bore their way out. She said they spray and dust and have to treat a coup,e times a year every year.
