Need some help here, I recently installed two smart chargers on my boat and noticed the red light on the DVSR is kicking on. After reading couple treads in regards DVSR's looks like I need to bypass this system in order to properly charge both battery's.

This is what in working with:
-Each battery has its own charging bank, connected directly to the positive and negative terminals.
-When bypassing the DVSR should I just install a switch on the (red) positive lead on the DVSR?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Need to know which dvsr brand and model you have to give proper advice. The just of it though is to put in an inline switch or connect to an engine on wire.

Are both batteries not charging? My understanding is that the DVSR will attempt to switch charging from one battery to another and possibly slow down your charging process, but won't stop it entirely.

I need to go back to storage to figure out what model it is, it the stock one that came with the boat.

Honestly looks like both battery's are taking charge, even noticed one charger turn off due to the battery being fully charged, this week end I noticed the DVSR (red) light was on as I was unplugging both chargers.

Haven't had any battery power issues, just want to make sure I'm doing this the right way.

If it is the BEP dvsr then the red light comes on when it is in combine mode. This is defeating the smart dual bank capabilites of your charger as it sensing charging voltage from the charger and combining both banks. You can take of the dvsr and there is a small red loop of wire behind it. If you clip it and connect the right end to the the enonge on wire it will only combine when the engines are running.

pardon my lack of knowledge with this, how can I tell where is the correct engine "on" wire? Or should I just install a on/off switch in between this red loop wire?

Thank you for your patience.

Installing a switch works as well. there is a purple wire labled eng on in the 2015 and 2016 242s locatrd on the foward engine fire wall. Not sure on your boat for that.

I don't have any problem using a dual bank charger with that DVSR as long as the start and house battery switches are turned off. Batteries charge just fine without any changes.

The batteries will charge but they may charge as one bank. Check out the light on the dvsr next time you plug in your dual bank charger.

If you have a dual bank charger the drawback of the DVSR engaging is (as @Mainah points out) that your charger will get fooled into only charging one bank. If you are leaving your boat a long time to charge....like 3+days, then this isn't a problem as both batteries will charge. The drawback is when you are leaving it overnight (with 1 or more importantly 2 depleted batteries), it won't charge as fast. For example, my dual bank charger is 5 amps per bank. So with the dvsr working, it will only charge 5 amps rather than 5+5. Since I'm leaving mine a week between outings, this is fine for 99.9% of my trips. If I have the need to charge 2 batteries overnight, I'll just unhook one. But typically only one of my batteries ever gets low (the house one due to the 1000 watt stereo).

Thank you guys for your help with this, I now have a better understanding on what to do and how to do it.

@Julian - Bingo this is the known issue with red loop wire. The other issue is battery chemistry. Most people with dual banks have one marine starting battery and one marine deep cycle. These are quite different chemistries and the charger/maintainer can't do its job this way. Even with two AGM that are the same and were put in at the same time there will be differences a few years down the road in how much charge they will accept and how fast they will accept it because the number of charge cycles will be different.

Quite correct about the different battery types....unfortunately for me, my dealer didn't install a deep cycle as my house battery....the plus side is both have the same charging chemistry.
