No reverse in water shallower than 2.5 feet and if you absolutely have to just use one motor and try not to hit high rpm. That should keep you from getting stoned

so we had this issue this past weekend also …. We’ve cleaned buckets etc when we moved them manually and we just don’t get any throttle response at all anymore from the levers and boat thinks it’s stuck in reverse. Any ideas? Took it to a mechanic they’re ever stumped and we have a BCU code coming up.

How did you move them manually? Did you flip the red levers in the servo box. My boat is the 2017 242 xe but I think they have the same box that powers the shift gate. Take a picture and post it maybe the gates weren't aligned properly when the red levers were locked in

yes, we had our friend who’s a wave runner mechanic help us out since we were stumped. We manually moved them using the red levers, and computer reads the direction of the buckets then when we went back to auto mode, instant confusion where it thinks it’s in reverse only and the throttle doesn’t work. The lever moves but no response at all from it. I’m concerned to even bring it to the dealer because when we told them what’s going on, they have never heard of this happening. Just to add its throw a 165 code. And of course warranty ended 6 days ago. We have a 23 222xd - I’ll take a pic shortly when I’m up on the boat.

Im not sure if yours is the same but when I need to lock in the levers it’s always when the gates are wide open, even though my shift lever is in neutral. Im almost positive that when the boat is started the shift box goes from wide open (forward) to closed (reverse) then to half open (neutral). It’s a self check that tells the computer the shift bucket is working and has the full range of motion . It also confirms that you have enough battery power since the batteries just produced a spike of amps to start the motors now the shift gates are pulling amps to move the gates. Could your batteries be low or the red lever is locked in the wrong calibration , gate full open lock the lever while the ignition is off it makes detent lock in when it’s in the correct position. The red lever can move while it’s not in the correct alignment but it goes further and locks in when in the correct lock in position.

yeah we did everything and ended up taking it to the dealer. The port side cable he said is extremely stiff and causing it to not read correctly. Even he said a boat with only 75 hours that’s not wet stored he’s surprised so he was going to let it sit overnight with more grease and if not he has to order new cables. Issue is,no one has it in stock except two dealers in Louisiana or Michigan otherwise we’d have to wait til the end of the month. He said dealers are reluctant to give parts up so we’ll see.

Cables are always a problem on these boats every one of the past four boats needed a cable replaced. Preventative maintenance has helped hooking up hoses with oil and compressed air forcing light weight oil into the cable. Releasing the red lever during winter storage and moving the gates up and down and grabbing the rudder and nozzles from port to starboard. Oxidation is like adhesive let it sit and it sets up at the worst making the cable freeze or causing a lot of resistance. On my 2005 a shift cable became super tight I disconnected both ends put a drill on it and rotated it forward slowly moving it in and out it freed it up saving the weekend. Then I figured let me try more drill spin after the weekend and spun the drill in reverse to try and get it even better the cable snapped, makes sense the cable is wound one direction spin it the other and it rips apart.

Keep us posted on the cable expense and time frame. Do you have any pictures of what the screen was showing and at any point did it stop the motors from starting.

Yeah it’s a pain. Dealer just called, told us the two dealers won’t give them up. So now it’s a waiting game estimated wait time is 7/12 and then probably have to wait for them to actually be received. Each cable is $350 and I don’t have any photos but BCU error code is what came up and was throwing a YDIS165 code on the a few. Weird thing is no motors fire right up just lost throttle response.
