I'm thinking about buying a Yamaha 222 FSH. One of my favorite fishing spots in the winter is a creek that feeds into a river. To get to the creek you have to go through a very wide, but very shallow bay. In the winter, after they drop the water, this bay is normally 2' to 3' deep. The bottom is super soft mud. Once you go up into the creek, for a bit you go over really small rocks and pieces of rocks that have gotten caught before flowing out into the bay. This area is also the same depth. Will this destroy the wear ring and impeller? I really want the 222 FSH, but would hate to loose fishing at my honey hole.

It is my opinion that 2' of water is plenty for my boat in those water conditions. I just will not shift to neutral or reverse. Just maintain idle forward. I don't know the draft on a 222 FSH but I think it is similar.

The mouth of the creek I boat out of sets off my depth alarm and claims 1.2-1.5 feet, depending on how recent the last rainfall was. I REGULARLY boat in 2-3', and had reason to pull my pumps this spring. After 4 years, no ill effects. I would proceed with confidence.

You'll have greater concerns about losing your lower unit with an outboard and hitting everything with your skeg

@buckbuck and @drewkaree summed it up great.

What I want to know is how you get there now?

If I go anywhere shallow I use my trolling my motor.
