Good Morning! Thanks again for your amazing help as I continue my search for a great buy.

I have the output of the YDS check resulting from my trip to Pensacola.

,Engine hours,93.4,

There is something that caught me off guard as I am reviewing the logs. One engine had this prior alarm

,,Low oil pressure warning,80.97,

I understand this is common with Oil changes and it matches owner indication that Oil change occurred around this time. (Season Begin this year)

The data logger had the following info (Many snips, two more lines for reference and the line in the middle is the one I'm concerned about:)

,Engine speed[r/min],Battery voltage (12-16)[V],TPS voltage (0.5-4.5)[V],Engine temperature (below 120)[°C],Intake pressure[kPa],Oil press switch[0:OFF 1:ON]
,1550,12.9,0.74,63.0,73.2,0,
,1400,13.2,0.74,64.0,74.2,1,
,1500,13.3,0.74,64.0,74.7,0,

What does that underlined 1 mean there? It's the flag for
Oil press switch[0:OFF 1:ON] , but we were past hour 92 on our 20 mins or so ride and I don't see a Low Oil alarm recorded then. I did not notice any beeps or lights as we rode.

Is this something to be concerned about? What does the 1 mean?? (Other engine has a zero there for all recorded lines)

THANKS!!!

@justason, I know you have some oil experience. Do you have any advice?

Wish I could say something more specific and helpful, but it sounds like you have a winner!
I personally would think that if the hours match between the engines and there is no evidence of any tampering or anything funny or crazy out of line - you are going to find a couple of alarms on most engines that have 80 hours on the clock. Probably means the guy was very careful not to overfill it on oil, which is actually very good. Wouldn't bother me one bit, given you have seen and heard the boat perform after the alarm, and it seems good.
Just my 0.02

Good luck, hope this works!

Thanks! Not concerned about the alarm at all as it makes perfect sense. More than anything confused about the meaning of the pressure switch ON flag recorded as part of the logging. Not sure what it really means. All other log lines have a zero there. Are those log entries at the bottom of the YDS report from recent operation? Or from when the alarm last fired?

Thanks again!

I assume that means that the low pressure sensor (switch) triggered.

I guess my better phrased question would be.. When did it trip? Just now? What's weird also is there is no time on the first column. Everything looked great otherwise, just not sure what that flag really means. Would love to avoid an oil problem if this is indicative of one, or be sure it really doesn't mean anything and all is well now.

I can't tell you of your specific issue but I will say that this is common for my MR-1 engines to have the switch turn on if the engine is at operating temperature and at idle. I have moved to heavier 10w-40 oil but it still comes on. I have seen this also in @OperationROL prior boat which had MR-1 engines. This has happened every time I have had the YDS hooked up and the engines hot. It does not trigger a trouble code.
Does the signal turn off to normal condition once you throttle up?

There should be a time stamp for when the alarm came in. I had one come in on my boat about 450 hours ago.

Can you upload the data here so we can see it?

Please tell us what year and type boat you are looking at.

Sorry, yes it is a 2008 sx 230.

Based on this info, and the fact the boat did not record an alarm, I feel reasonably confident this is not something to fear. We have reached an agreement on price and basics, so if it all works out I may soon be joining you in the privilege of Yamaha jet boat ownership.

Thanks again.

Found this while googling your problem...found it interesting to read:

https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/engine-oil-pressure-switch-operating-principles-kiril-mucevski

But doesn't help answer your question.....my guess is that at various times the oil pressure will vary depending on what is going on in the engine. So the switch will show 0 or 1, but the ECU will look at that in conjunction with RPM etc to determine if the oil pressure is indeed low. If it WAS low, you would have an error code logged. So pretty sure you are fine....

@Beachbummer
I want you to be aware that my typical idle RPM is about 1700 and typical battery voltage is about 14.2. These are different than what you show. I am not saying there is a problem, only that they are different.
How long had the engine been running when you took that snapshot?

That's the thing, we were not out at all yet, we were just bumping the starter to get the obd tool to start. We were not actually running.I suspect those could be rpms from the starter activity even. Not sure how the snapshot is recorded or what triggers it. We did not record it on purpose, but it was saved with the data.

OK....then don't worry at all! I'm surprised you were able to get any data from just starter activity! (might want to updated your profile or signature to show the new boat's details)
