Lake Cumberland took a beating this weekend, multiple marinas with collapsed roofs and sunken docks.

Alligator II, Lees Ford, Grider Hill, Beavercreek, Burnside, Wolf Creek and Jamestown are all reporting in with damage.

The 102' "Male Order" docked at Jamestown has taken on water and is believed to be a total loss,

The 2nd part to that video shows other damage to Jamestown slips.

I feel terrible for all of the people that have damaged or lost boats, hopefully insurance will be kind to them and they can come out of this bad situation better than they were before.

Did anyone notice the small pontoon next to the larger boat that was just left there? I know it was dangerous, but I think I would have climbed in there with a life jacket on and moved that boat out! It was clear of the roof in the first part of the video. Perhaps on the scene I would have chickened out?

None the less....totally sucks!!!

Bummer. Thank God no one was hurt, but dang.... boats are supposed to RELIEVE stress, not cause a person more. I guess they are good at doing both sometimes.

More reason I want to live there. I mean cmon, if this is a huge problem due to a fluke storm, think of the normal! They are in the 40's next week. Besides, if I move there it's 7 hours to shelbyville and...... 7 hours less to bimini, lol
We hope to check out land properties while we are down there.

The cottages are still good and the boat launch is still there. We'll be there!

So everything I know from doing all my boating there and have read about with the storm, the roads down to the marinas had 12+ inches of snow and are pretty steep to get down to them in most cases so no one could really get down to do anything, there was about a 1/4" of ice that fell first then the snow. The thought on the big houseboat is that since it was the tallest boat in the line it took most of the weight of the roof/snow when it fell forcing it under a bit and it began taking on water. Power was shut off to all the slips that were in trouble so if a boat was dependant on shore power for anything it lost it.

The roofs over the slips are very lightly built since the docks are floating, the are really built for sun, rain and light snow as that area doesn't get a lot of snow typically, this was the exception by far.

Wife and I have discussed a slip versus storing it on the trailer in a storage building, glad we stayed with the building.

Actually, be careful with the building as well. I know someone had posted up pictures of one of the large storage buildings that had boats in it and the whole roof collapsed!

We had a situation last year where central KY got 25", a few free standing land structures with years of resiliency lost viability and crashed on boats. Its bad always, but hate to see anyone lose everything
