I love how the UK has Remembrance Day, and almost everyone wears a poppy. Brits seem to really understand the significance of the day, unlike most of us Americans. Their focus really is on remembering their fallen heroes, not a celebration of the start of Summer.

Jim

This may finally be a Memorial Day weekend that my wife gets to head out with the neighbor's wife and they go around selling poppies to help support the local American Legion. Seems there's less and less in the area, thankfully the neighbors help those left to keep the traditions alive, and the hall is well funded and supported. I was lucky that I didn't have friends/relatives lost to service, but definitely have had those who served and have since passed, that have made a great impression on me. For those who are so inclined, there's also the traveling Vietnam memorials. I don't know that we've got anyone on the forums who may have served in Korea, but Vietnam seems like it may have touched quite a few on here, and I recommend either of these if they're in your area:
