So, after nearly 4 years of not running I finally got my grandpa's old truck running today. It's a 1966 c20 custom camper special that my grandpa bought in '67 from the original owner. My Dad And I have been planning to get it running for some time now, but other things have gotten in the way. Since I've had some time off of work, I decided to get it running while he's been on vacation. I can't wait to surprise him with it. I couldn't be more happy.

Funny how seeing a picture brings back memories. My grandpa had an old Elcamino and the gauge cluster looked very similar.

Awesome, I would love to have a project truck like that. Reminds me of my Grandpa's pickup that he drove when I was a kid, I think it was a 70s Chevy or GMC, green with a white stripe.

@scot71 nice work bringing that beauty back to life. Looks like a nicely preserved/unmolested specimen wrt paint and original parts.

My dad bought my mom a ‘63 Chevy when I was about 11-12, that’s pretty much what I learned to drive in. This truck reminds me a lot of it, same color and bumper and stuff.

I bought a ‘69 Chevy shortens when I was 15, I’m 43 now and still have it, I’ll never let it go!

I get "This video is unavailable"... :-(

Sorry about that guys, something happened to the link. Here it is again.

worth seeing a second time, it even made me smile, it looks like a great truck!

What did you have to do to get it running again?

New parts: points, condenser, rotor, cap, plug wires, plugs, coil, fuel pump, water pump, valve cover gaskets, and various hoses. We also had the radiator cleaned out and had the carb rebuilt already.

Points, condenser, carbs? I am glad those days are gone. :)

That's awesome! Wish I was mechanically minded. All my stuff is fuel injected for a reason.

Rotor, points, - miss working with my brother as a kid and using a timing light to set the timing and tune up his 67 Opel Cadet. Nice work getting the truck started. That is a classic and it looks to be in good shape. Please show some more pictures when you get it outside.

Will do.

Back in highschool we used to run around town in a buddy's dad's restored teal and white C10 from that era. This puts a huge smile on my face Scott! Great job.

(Disclaimer: I may or may not have learned to surf in the bed of that pickup flying down the highway after a party in a field...Lord know how we all survived! Thankfully Facebook wasn't invented yet!)

Thanks Jeff!
I agree, how did we survive...lol. Not to mention the fact that we were running all over Hell's half acre with no way for our parents to know where we were. I'm so glad I grew up before cell phones and the internet. Good Times!

@4x15mph Here's a couple pictures I found that I took back in 2009. Can't wait till we can get it washed up and polished up, and make it look like it needs to.
