Hello Everyone.

I've had nothing but back to back problems from the day I received my 2014 195HOI in April of 2015. The "Brand New" boat had 14 hrs on it...... Anyways long story short, The boat runs great now after going back and forth with marinemax. Out of the 4 1/2 months I've owned it, they had the boat for 3 all in all trying to fix it. Now I am asking to have all the minor things fixed/replaced. Carpets are Fading to purple, Trailer lights work when they feel like it, Staples that hold the cushions in place rusted away and seats are coming apart in the corners, seats are starting to separate at the stitching, Rear Tie Down trailer straps are Damaged and wont ratchet, Seat that opens to service gauge cluster is ripped, Knob that controls tower speaker is Damaged and doesn't work, Front Cup Holder Cracked in several places/ 1 Missing again (Marinemax removed when cleaning the boat and never sealed them back. (SS Cup), Fuel Gauge still doesn't read Full. This is the reply I got back....

Dear Client,

I spoke with management and they tell me the boat was kept inside the showroom the entire time since it was new. (BULLSHIT, Had 14HRS on Motor) Marinemax can't be held responsible for issues such as rusting, fading, etc. over the past 4-5 months of use (They had it in for repairs for 3 of those months). Marinemax stores have tried to take care of your concerns... some of which have been addressed more than once (Damages They caused while the boat was in their facility). You have a copy of the Scarab warranty, if you'd like to contact Scarab directly to get additional items covered we will provide you with their number below. Marinemax will need pre-authorizations from Scarab to continue to do warranty work. Once Scarab has a claim(or claims) in the system we'll be happy to assist further.

That can I do from Here?

I do not have sufficient understanding to determine what is reasonable. However, I would contact Scarab. They will have the most traction with the dealer.

I’m sorry to hear about your problems Elio, and unfortunately, I have nothing of value to add that will help your situation. The reason that I am replying to your post is to thank you for deciding to do something about your situation rather than just accept your “Dear client” letter.

I’ve owned a new Yamaha for about 3 months. It’s my first Yamaha. I am equally disappointed with the service that my dealer provided and I don’t plan on returning to them for further warranty work. I assume that many of our forum members have some affiliation with a boat company or a dealership, and as such, they are probably pretty helpful, and when I gripe about how incompetent my dealer is, I hope that they are not offended.

Yamaha sent me a survey so that I can give feedback on the service that I received from my dealer. If the survey results just go to the dealer, then I’ve wasted my time. If someone at Yamaha is actually paying attention to the lack of competence demonstrated by my dealer, then maybe something positive will come out of it.

I wonder if Scarab has a corporate level survey to see how their dealers are servicing their boat owners.

Good luck.

I found the Number to scarab and gave the warranty dept a call. Apparently they have not received any warranty Tickets nor have they denied any with my boats serial #. Scarab stated all the items in question are covered under warranty and Advised to call Marine Max and have them call him directly. Did that, now their whole attitude changed and they are working to see what they can do. These dealers are so full of BS, I wonder how many people accept the sorry not covered under warranty crap and move on. Hope this info can help someone else out.

Can you post that number for Scarab Warranty Dept? I'm sure others would find it helpful!

Please keep posting on how this turns out as members will be curious to see how they (Corporate) stand behind their product. Sounds like you've been through the wringer with this boat! Hope they make it good...

Thank you for this post... Nice job.
I to have had my shares of problems.

@Elio195HOI I agree with @PapaBear. I have had issues also, but my dealer (not MarineMax) was on top of all of my issues. My 2014 195 HOI has been running great after they resolved my problems. Don't let them off the hook with getting it right.....

And the hits keep coming from the dealer network. They might as well be selling used cars at a buy-here-pay-here.

OP sorry that you are going through these issues. Be firm with them, and see it through. Good luck.

Man I've been dealing with similar issues with my dealer but fortunately for the most part they've been handling all the issues. I've had some quality issues from Scarab and I will definitely be voicing my opinion to them, I have also requested a number to contact someone from scarab in regards to quality control, I will post it if and when I get that number if its an alternate.

MarineMax is horrible, they hate dealing with Scarabs and have zero experience in how to market or deal with Scarab customers. I had such a dilemma trying to buy a boat from them that I went to another dealer and bought a 29' Wellcraft Scarab that runs low 80's for 30k. Took a week from finding the boat having survey done and bringing home. They have several brand new '14 models in stock for a reason. I looked at a new zero hour bare bones 215 w/200 hp motors with a 59k msrp and their rock bottom was 51k plus taxes. I offered 48k they said no way. A month later they said 49k would buy and I offered 45k. Two months later the sales guy calls saying he got me rebates down to 42k. The price was finally right but the rebate story was pure BS. I called another MarineMax saying I had a 8 hour 2014 215 I wanted to sell and was told the boat was worth 30-32k. The guy trying to sell me the boat was telling me how hot the market is and they can't work deals because they can't keep these boats in inventory then another guy from same company says they can't give away and are taking 20k off the lowest optioned brand new ones. Avoid MarineMax at all cost because they will waste your time and screw you anyway they can. Happy with what I ended up with but the run around they gave me was ridiculous. Still thinking about a 215 though, trying to buy a used one from a dealer for 34k. Black 200hp tower and all options with 14 hours. I'll know next week if they are going to sell to me or hold onto for next summer. The sales guy even told me he would rather take 34k right now instead of hoping to find another buyer next year for 32k

North Texas Marine is the best Scarab dealer to deal with in TX.

Can somebody explain to me why dealers are so hesitant to do warranty work? Correct me if I am wrong, but it's not coming out of their pockets right? If it's cleared through the manufacturer, then the manufacturer pays for it yes? You'd think they would welcome warranty work for guaranteed income... Then again, maybe the mark up isn't as high so they're losing money for the time they could be gouging other customers? I just don't get it.

Anyway Elio, sounds like Scarab is going to make it right. Can't believe they expected you to call them, but in my opinion it's better that way. I've had similar dealer issues with Subaru, Pontiac, Lotus... only made progress when I contacted the brand directly, so never lose that number.

Update: Still waiting.........
Unfortunately that seems to be the pattern we are seeing. I feel for you and hope it's brought to closure soon.

It would be helpful if this forum had a way to gather and compile dealership performance based on membership experience. @Bruce, on a different note, I bet that this data might be of value to the mother companies, and to the good dealerships who care about their reputation.

On a positive note, I found the time to get scuba certified. Hopefuly I can put the boat to use once I finally get it back.

We have a local dealers forum https://jetboaters.net/forums/local-dealers.77/ where members can share their experiences.
