Hi everyone,
I am new to the boating community in the Vancouver, WA area. I've found the input and advice on this website extremely helpful since I'm as green as them come. We have a 2016 Yamaha AR192. I've been doing a lot of research on maintenance, care, safety, how to use it.... any advice specific to this boat would be great. Or just advice in general is welcome. The specifics of our situation is we are splitting ownership of this boat with a relative which is perfect for us but in order to make this work, we are mooring the boat. Are there any specific maintenance recommendations when it comes to mooring? I've read that we may want to pull it out periodically to clean the hull and ensure everything looks good. Thanks
Alex

Congrats and Welcome!

Wet slipping....you definitely will notice performance degradation if your boat grows to much stuff on it. Is this fresh or salt water?

It's fresh water. That's what I read. If I pull it out to clean, is there any recommendations on how often?

It is really going to depend on how much growth your lake gets. When I was in Illinois/Wisc area I could leave it in all summer with limited growth. Here in the warm waters of NC I had to pull it out at least twice a summer - which is why I ended up getting an Airdock.

I have the same boat. Bought it new. I do not trailer often. In my opinion, This boat was designed more for trailering than maneuvering around docks. At slow speeds, forward and reverse can be challenging especially when dealing with chop, wind, etc. I highly recommend installing thrust vectors and lateral thrusters. I am not a mechanic and I was able to install with help of YouTube. You may want to add a second battery as well. Good luck I am excited for you. It is an awesome boat. Feel free to browse my posts on the AR192.

Thanks for the feedback. Is there a website or brand you would point me to for thrust vectors and lateral thrusters? Maneuvering through the docks has been challenging since we are on a river and the current has been relatively strong lately. Having better control sounds really nice.

Jet boat pilot, for thrust vectors/lateral or cobra jet steering. Both of those guys make regular appearances on the board and nearly everyone here has one thing or another from them. I have the thrust vector wake kit on my 190 and love it. Low speed steering is vastly improved and I, very regretfully, have not had a chance to surf yet.
For the install, Will has a great youtube on his website that walks you through. Its a good 2 beer and a lunch break job.

Having a gelcoat/ fiberglass repair is pricey too. The cost of aftermarket steering upgrades is well spent when considering the alternative. Jetboatdrvr has mentioned the two aftermarket options. I went with jetboatpilot b/c lateral thrusters can be installed along with thrust vectors. You should conduct your due diligence and check both companies out online.
with a strong current, you may want an additional anchor. I use a 30lb River anchor in addition to the stock 7lb danforth. Although a 20lb River anchor is adequate, I’d rather have greater anchoring and deal with a heavier anchor. I store it in a milk crate and stow it away when underway.

Having a SC engine the ribbon delete should be your first mod so it can breather better and get extra pound of boost.
Theres a tune by Dean that will open it up if you are into tinkering
Don't forget a BOV. If you find boat coming is out of water and having to come off throttle, It will go a long way in preserving the SC clutch

Most of those mod's come straight from SVHO ski's.

Oh don't forget a 5 gallon of fuel to play a little longer and fun and be safe.

Thanks for all the feedback, I appreciate it.

Welcome neighbor, where are you planning on taking the boat out at? We have our 2019 AR195 on Merwin most the summer. Since we can’t fuel on the water we will wash it whenever it’s fueled. I keep it waxed, so cleanup is very easy whenever we pull it out.

The steering has a learning curve, but myself and my wife now have very few issues pulling into the dock.
