Totally new member.

Have been boating for many, many years (owned a number of different brand and style boats). Will likely get out of boating soon as the kiddo is grown now (college) and lake life has become not-so-much-fun.

Will probably try to sell my 2012 242LS next year. I presently have 35 hours on her. Meticulous care. Hopefully we will get some water in the lake this year and I can put some hours on her before letting her go.

Mostly a forum lurker.

Welcome aboard. I hope you find new uses for your 242 but if not I am sure that several here will be interested.

Welcome Dilla Killa!

Seeing as how you have been boating for many many years I would like to hear your opinion on the Yamaha jet boats compared to the other boats you have owned...

Welcome Dilla Killa!

This is my first jet boat (not including PWCs). I have had Outboards and IOs.

It really isn't fair to give the Yamaha #1 since I have only had her for 2 years. Remains to be seen whether the Yamaha will stand the test of time. I tend to think that it will.

What I like about it:

Easy to work on. Much lower maintenance / cost than IO style boats and a little bit lower maintenance than a true outboard (this will vary by style).

What I don't like:

The usual stuff. Steering wasn't bad to learn, IMO (as most people complain). The throttles gave me fits (unmatched RPMS, etc.) until I was able to adjust them and get a ThrottleSync. Annoyingly loud engine noise. Crappy anchor. Piss poor placement of the batteries (dealer's fault).

I worked on this boat less than any of the others I have owned. So, that's something. Overall, a good experience and a good value.

Our last boat was an older IO, the maintenance was the biggest pain. I could barely access the engine and winterizing it and changing the oil was beyond my comfort/experience level. And when I needed new gimble bearings and other work done the whole engine had to be pulled.

With the help of fellow member and all around good guy @wakeformer I was able to change the oil and winterize the boat without the headache and expense of going to a dealer. I really think that the ease of maintenance combined with the reliability of twin engines and the safety of not having a prop exposed under the boat are what led me to buy a Yamaha.

Welcome DK. Glad you found us. There is a guy in TX that might be interested in a good used boat if you decide to sell. @txav8r
