So we found a praying Mantis on the Hummingbird feeder this morning:

And I was amused to see that the 3 Hummingbirds who typically fight over the feeder would not land on the feeder, but were flying all around rather annoyed at the Mantis on it. So I had to google what Praying Mantis eat, and to my surprise, I found the following link....which has videos of the attacks (which includes one of our very same feeder!!)

So that little ahole has now been evicted from the feeder! LOL

Yep...I always liked and admired Praying Manti...until hummingbirds became an interest around the house. We have 4 hummingbird feeders, 6 bird feeders, 4 suet woodpecker feeders, and two birdbaths. The squirrels give me fits and I occasionally have to thin their ranks. But since I discovered the praying mantis habits (discovered that about 10 years ago), they are on the endangered species list around our place. I pluck one off a hummingbird feeder at least once a month!

That's crazy, I never knew that. I'm just suprised that the other humming birds couldn't fight off the mantis. Maybe they didn't like that bird so much? ;) not a team player?

When I was installing the soffit lights outside our house I found a praying mantis 32' up the wall on this corner of our house. The deck had not been built yet so it really had walked 32' up the wall. I caught it and took it to my Mom's school where it entertained the kids inside of a terrarium.

Interesting. ....but don't get me going on how much I dislike those damn squirrels!!:devilhorns:

They make nice targets for the 22 rifle too

They make good dumplings.
Didn't know squirrels could cook. :) Did you know the female praying mantis will bite the head off the male during or after mating?
