Guest, we are pleased to announce that Hydrophase Ridesteady is offering an extra $100 off for JETBOATERS.NET members on any Ridesteady for Yamaha Speed Control system purchased through March 7th, 2025. Ridesteady is a speed control system (“cruise control”) that uses GPS satellites or engine RPM to keep your boat at the set speed you choose. On twin engine boats, it will also automatically synchronize your engines.
Anyone added a push start modification to their non Limited boats? I want to hear suggestions on the best system to install as push start for my 2016 AR240
@FloJet - I don't think you will have any trouble doing this mod. Perhaps you can up with some other creative uses for the timer relays or a better way to do it.
I should correct that statement to push start may mean different things to different generations. My 18yo daughter thinks push start is the button on the dash that starts the engine. I however remember when I was 18 and I had left the lights on in my VW Corrado so my buds gave me a push before I popped the clutch and they jumped in once it was running. Fun days.
Exactly. Check out the faq link that @Julian posted earlier in the thread. That link is to what I did with full instructions, video, wiring diagram, and parts list. I used two "programmable" relays and two switches. One momentary press on the start button starts both engines in sequence. One press on the stop button kills both engines. Buttons don't work unless ignition keys are in the on position. Ignition keys still work as a backup.
That's a great idea for a push start. I am glad at least it has been done and more people can experience from here. I do like the idea of the timer relay but after briefly reading the post, is it necessary? After I get my Leds and other mods completed I will look deep into this. What I'm thinking is it shouldn't deviate too far away from vehicle setups. My only question would be why timer relays and not a normal digital or analog relay? If you set up the push starts independently, No need to worry about delay start as you would press each module independently. My whole stereo system is on a relay and it works great for what I was trying to achieve so depends on how it's setup. But I do kinda understand how it's needed if you are trying to start both engines with one button, but that's not a route I would want to take, I don't think. Hard to tell all this until I look behind the helm and see what's going on back there. Will write my experiences as I attempt this in the near future. It's something I really wanted to do and fresh water kit too. Trying to bring my AR up a to the Limited Series as much as I can lol.
Yes it's a shame many people now days do not know how to drive a standard @Mainah . I don't think I would want to learn any other way. Miss those old days. No matter what, clutch starting was always an option for emergency starts hahaha.
And how many of us left the house at night so our parents didn't know, pushed the car out, started it rolling down the hill and all of us jumped in and dropped the clutch at the bottom for some night time shenanigans.
Also might be easier to see someone's Limited S or higher series and look behind the helm to see how their push start is integrated That might be the best option to get it to factory install as much as possible. I need the wiring diagram for that if anyone has it? Thanks all, this forum is the best.

This is the way our boat came from the factory. 2 buttons, one for each starter. Manual states not to push them both at the same time. I'm assuming it's to prevent any issues with overloading circuits and such. When we first got the boat we would hit both buttons at the same time, but you could hear the strain on the battery when you did this. Didn't damage anything, but maybe we got lucky.
Ya I assume trying to start both at same time is drawing way too much current from the starting battery. If you had a big big battery, it might not be an issue. But two engines trying to crank from a single 12v battery is just too much at times.
@FloJet - Modern push button start in cars and in boats like the eseries is done with a single momentary push button and a logic controller. This can also be done in an analog method making use of a the engine on wires in a latching relay setup. Lots of ways to do it. Look foward to seeing what you come up with.
I really don't mind starting them independently as that's what I was thinking it had to be done anyways. I just like the idea it can be done. Just how to make it as efficient as the stock ones in a way.
I've been looking at this site and talked to them in the past.
