We currently wet slip our boat. This was our fist outing of the year after lunching the boat last week. We had no issues with the boat whatsoever last week. Today I noticed we were experiencing cavitation on our starboard engine within seconds of leaving the dock. I pulled out the plug and literally removed 6 or 7 weeds wrap around the shaft. I replaced the plug and we are still experiencing cavitation. Is there somewhere else I should be looking for the cause of this problem.

If there is anything left in there, even a small twig or fishing line it will cause cavitation. Sometimes it's difficult to get it all out in the water and you need to look up in the grates with flashlight or in some cases pull the pump, which is easier than it sounds.

I fight milfoil most of the season. in addition to reaching down and checking along where the impeller meets the housing, check along the entire length of the shaft with your hand, and if you can, reach down and see if there's anything along the grates on the bottom of the hull. I can usually find something attached along that grate.

Thanks everybody for the imput. Tried the reverse manoeuvre, it took 4 or 5 attempts to get whatever was in there all cleared out.
Much appreciated.

A note of caution, though: if you are having the boat in the water when checking from the grate side, a) probably you shouldn't, b) be very careful, and c) at least take a friend with you to watch you. If you are reaching your hand up in the grate and get it caught while you are under the boat, you could have a really bad day.
