Made it home from Destin. Spent the last 2 days down there on land due to 60’s & too much wind. Went to a jump park where the kids wore themselves out and then went to “The Track” theme park. Rode go karts, the Hurricane, played mini golf & more. Getting ready for the season, I decided to finally bite the bullet and get a decent dock box for the lake. West Marine, excellent quality, ridiculously large, and crazy expensive, lol.

Sorry for the morbid thoughts... but think of it this way. You just bought a 2 in 1 special and saved yourself some money on a coffin. Looks like there's room for two. Not that you need to get any ideas about going anywhere...

Yes, indeed, and I'll raise you:
This thing is so big, it could easily be a family crypt.

Probably wont degrade as quick as they do here in S Florida....keep it waxed like your boat to avoid it getting chalky and dull.

I just happened to be speaking with my neighbor about this the other day,

He works for a lumber supplier to the companies that build houses in the DFW area
He started out as a carpenter 40 years ago and is now a salesman,

They get most of their lumber from mills in the TX/AR/OK/LA area with 3 week lead time, they do have a rail head that they get train cars from the NW but that can be a 3 month lead time.

Very little of their lumber comes from Canada, 20-30 yrs ago the quantity from Canada was much larger,

I thought with Covid maybe the mills or cutters were shutting down (much like the meat processing plants that had outbreaks and slowed operations, haven't heard about that crisis again),

His thought is that the mills are just slowing processing to limit supply and drive up the price, why work at 100% if it's going to lower your profit,
He said this happens occasionally when lumber will hit low prices and suddenly it's time for the mill to shut the plant down and retool and suddenly everybody starts buying lumber at higher price because of the fear they'll get left without during the down time,

We freaking love New Jersey.
Kids are on school break, Kate took them out to the beach and boardwalk. She says the beach is empty. Hitting the rides next.

Not too shabby, twenty minutes from home!

I told them to mark the spot, so we know where to anchor next week, as the new boat should be in the water by then, lol.

Very little of their lumber comes from Canada...... The Trump administration put a 24% tariff on lumber coming from Canada into the US, might have something to do with it!

I golfed with a guy that just moved here from Oregon. They are closing on their new house this weekend. He said his builder told him they cancelled roughly 250 contracts just recently because of the spike in material prices and shortage.

It's not just lumber..... Steel is nuts right now. Petrochemicals are in short supply due to the freeze that hit TX, and its having a huge effect on my business. We have been put on allotment from several of our raw material suppliers. They basically said we are not allowed to buy more than 10% over what we bought the previous year. So now we are raising prices, and limiting materials.

Agree, I used to see train lumber cars heading south, thru town. Have not seen them in quite a while. The wood chip cars still come by daily en-route to Burlington Electric's Moran plant.
