I had a date yesterday .. 20+mph winds and we drove a total of 40 miles. We went to a ocean side restaurant called Salt Shack. We docked on the bay side, walked over to the restaurant, saw a live band, ate tacos, and walked to the beach. Then we departed to the fire island lighthouse. This was a sketchy because there was 2ft swells in the large bay. It was impossible to dock at the restaurant without the dock scratching the shit out of my boat. So I put 2 anchors in 2ft swells and left the boat for a few hours. We had missed the lighthouse museum which closed 30 minutes prior so we walked around the park and then the small beach town, and ate again at Kismet Inn. As night fell, the winds died down and we had a comfortable drive back. We caught the sunset with this cute dog. The night sky was so clear that we could see manhattan. Beautiful day and I can't wait for real Summer temperatures!

Haha! This was the weather in Rio de Janeiro and I was one of the few people who didn't complain. Partly because I work in a cozy office

These guys had a busy weekend recovering boats. The J24 sailboat sunk in Malletts Bay.

He broached with the spinnaker up in 30kt winds. Wind and waves filled the boat while on it side. They were training for the J24 Worlds to be held in Texas next week.

Edit: As it turns out after talking with friends, we know this owner. We know of his boat. He is very experienced and is the local sailmaker who made our genoa. He said there was a mechanical failure.

Edit 2: If he said it was a mech. failure I believe him. He has been racing that boat a long time. Along with the 5 on board were his 2 dogs that are ok. Here they are in 2018 when we were picking up our 135% genoa.

I was always a cruiser and never raced. When I was on a small boat and there were strong winds I always had the hatch closed and the companionway boards in, just in case I swamped the cockpit. Do they keep everything open on the racing boats, maybe to retrieve the sails?

In the conditions they were in, I am sure they had hatches secure. The boat layed on its side with the spinnaker pulling it over, flooding the cockpit and companionway.

Yea, a spinnaker holds a lot or air OR water, and its tough to right a boat with the sails underwater.

Our Beneteau has been in stealth mode since we bought her. There are no external identifiers that she is a Beneteau other than the HIN#. We see/hear people on the camera asking what kind of boat she is. Well, we decided to give them a clue. Willow made mirror image vinyl Seahorses to sew onto both sides of the sail cover.

Installed a burgee/pennant flag staff and holder on the bow pulpit rail today. Separate product review post to follow.
Anyway, I thought these looked good hanging there.

Then replaced 4 year old fender covers with new ones Willow made from Boat Blanket material. Some had worn thru.

I need to find a way to attach a cup holder to this. I'm thinking industrial velcro and use the original cup holders from my boat

Or the classic…

They put a lot of good beer in cans these days. No glass bottles on my boat!
