Almost done with my latest home / yard improvement project. A new good neighbor fence. 126’ long, 6’ high and 16 posts / post holes. I could not have picked a worse time to start the project, the four hottest days ever recorded on earth.

it took 2 days to demo and haul away the old fence plus dig and cement in the new posts. At least ot cooled down from 109 to 102 in that time.

Today it only hit 90 something and I started before the contractors next door. The foreman joked, a few hours later while his crew was on a lunch break and I was still working, he joked about offering me a job on his crew. IMG_2841.jpegIMG_2839.jpegIMG_2837.jpegIMG_2830.jpeg

Took advantage of the cooler weather this morning to work on the short game. Been dropping a lot of shots around the green!! I put three in the yellow flag hole. They just punched the greens, so that's what all the sand on the right side if anyone was wondering.

What does "punched the greens" mean?

Nice work, sir! If I’m not playing 36 holes in a day, I’ll spend 1-2 hours on the range after 18 holes. Much of that range time is 75 yards and in. That’s where the payoffs happen?

@Murf'n'surf @BigN8 I've been working hard to get better at this whole golfing thing. Played (3) rounds in three days.

Friday at Persimmon Ridge - Shot 126. Not my greatest round. I was stiff, and didn't do well on the back nine
Saturday at The Crossings - Shot 111. Best game to date. Shot 52 on the front 59 on the back. My average is 62 with golf league so this was about right. I think I was getting tired on the back nine.
Sunday at Heritage HIll - Shot 111. MUCH better front, felt great, I was hitting irons well, putting was acceptable, drives are weird, but worked for me. THEN I drank too much and shot a 59 on the back nine. I really think I could have kept that 52 pace up and been a good round. Had a great effing time with my buddies though, so that's worth something.

THEN.....Last night at Quail Chase with the company golf league. I shot a 49. First time breaking 50 on 9 holes. I 1-putted about 4-5 of the holes. Never left a chip short, and hit some decent drives. Only lost 1 ball as well! Hit one AMAZING 9i shot through/over some trees to win the skill prize on 9 for closest in two. I was ~10ft from the flag on my second shot.

Here's last nights score card. That 9th 3-putt killed my soul, and the 5 on #6 was with the single lost ball, so I was shooting my 3rd shot from the tee box there, and essentially par'd the hole aside from penalties.

I really think I'm starting to get the hang of it now. I'm hitting most of the clubs acceptably. I have a good idea of what club I hit how far. I can't really "shape" a shot at any level, but I can make decisions like lay-up or go for it, and reasonably expect a straight flight path from most of my clubs (driver is the exception here). It's also actually become somewhat fun to play. Being just acceptably good at something just seems to make it a bit better.

SO.....to reward myself, I bought this a few minutes ago.

Helped that Amazon has it on sale for prime day as well -> https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B096SZFZGV/

Now......just have to find a nice new set of clubs to put in the fancy new bag. Guessing my Cougars are due for replacement.

Congrats! Break 100 then 90 then 80! Takes a loooooong time and lots of lessons and practice. I have concentrated on one club at a time (driver/irons/wedges/woods/putter) and it has worked out well. Start with mastering the driver in terms of finding the fairway and keeping it straight. Then the irons...etc.

I worked on good ball contact first, then have started "feeding in power". That seems to be working for me. I can hit my irons just about 100% power now, and am getting acceptable distance and flight from them. My 7i is averaging around 144yds, and my driver is around 230yds average. Biggest thing I want to work on right now is getting off the tee box straight. My flight path of the ball is a GIANT slice off to the right. I'm VERY consistent with it though, so right now I'm just lining up ~45deg to the left and letting it go. I've been in the fairway most times with that plan of attack. It's not pretty, but it's working for me. If I could straighten that out consistently I think I could add 40-45yds to my drive distance. I also started learning my 4/5 hybrid this weekend. It's currently good for ~185yds or so, and I hit it pretty straight as well. So it'll get some more use here soon.

I think my next purchase is going to be a matching set of drivers (1w, 3w, 5w, 5h) so I can hit them all the same. Right now my driver has a regular flex shaft, my 3w has a mid flex shaft (and feels like a noodle), and my 5h is a steel shaft. I suspect it'll help me to get them all setup in a low flex shaft, and cut to the right length for me.

I've been dropping shots 100 yds and in so that's my focus right now. That and managing the blow up holes. Seems like I'm good for at least 1-2 double bogeys a round right now, usually from a bad decision that gets compounded.

Took me a while to get rid of the slice/over the top swing. Don't take the club to a full back swing, start 1/2 to 3/4 backswing. Take club away and keep face pointed at ground, keep club low (feeling) and behind you. In the downswing, keep that right shoulder from going to the left......rotate it down to the ground if that make sense.

Drive for show putt for dough. Words to live by. I was on in 2 on a par 5 this past weekend and par'd the damn thing. Happens all the time.

Took me 10 years to get rid of it and it completely screwed up the good parts of my game once I did.

@2kwik4u be wary of how much time you invest getting comfortable or close enough with a potentially bad swing. It’s a bitch to fix later.

I suspect I'm already there.

I'm fairly athletic in general, and typically take coaching well. That's my next step once I get some gear from this decade.
