Hi
I just purchased a 2014 AR240. Had a hell of a time debating buying new or used. Originally we went to a local dealer to look at the new 2017 AR210. They didn't have one at the dealership, but had one coming in. We put a deposit on it sight unseen. Went to a boat show to look at the 212 S Limited to see the size of the boat. Found out the difference in the engines (1.8's vs TR1') and asked him to run the numbers on the 212. Said he would the next day (Monday). I don't hear from him for 4 days despite 2 emails and 2 phone calls. Spoke to our bank on Thursday who gave me the numbers the salesman should have giving me 4 day previously. Salesman leaves me a message on Saturday to call him ASAP. Can you believe the salesman took a second deposit on our boat!!! He actually told me if I didn't buy it by the end of the weekend they were going to sell it to the other person. Then accused us of stringing him along and then changing our mind!!! Well the wife and I went ballistic. Got the manager involved and he tried to make it right by lowering the price, but with the experience of the salesman and the lack of solid reviews/owner experiences of the TR1's we started looking used.
Found a couple used AR240's in my price range and started negotiating. POP yachts had one and the broker seemed decent. He actually recommended lowballing the original price and that the owner was motivated to sell. Well we went back and forth for over a week and the price dropped a grand total of less than 2k. Some motivation!
Found the boat I purchased from a dealership north of Boston, East Coast Flightcraft. Emailed them an offer $7k less than asking and $4k less than the boat from POP Yachts. They accepted on the spot. Should of offered less But it was way less than we had budgeted.
Took my oldest son up yesterday to look it over and give it a test run. I came from a 2009 Bayliner with a Mercruiser 3.0. To say the Yamaha exceeded my expectations is an overstatement. What a fun boat. My son and I had a shit eating grin on the whole time. I used a check list from this site to go over the boat and it checked out perfect!
Feels like I know you all already as I've been stalking the site researching. I want to thank you all for your help and investment on this site. Since I know it's not real unless I post a picture, here it is after our test run!
Again, thank you all for your wonderful site!!
Now on to creating a budget for mods!!
