Hi there,
I have been reading as a guest, decided to join. I have learned quite a bit about jet boats on this site. Really enjoy all the info on here it is fantastic!!
Wife asked last week if I wanted to go to the boat show. Hell ya! Looking to replace our old I/O. We both loved the Glastron gt187, but I am a Yammi guy. I have had 3 Yammi snowmobiles and I have a little 6hp on my tin boat. Hands down Yamaha makes great products. What are the pros for the Glastron gt187 over the ar190 besides the looks?? Have not found anything on that. Any suggestions??

@Peter C Welcome to the club!
Funny, I just came back from St. Louis boat show, and what continues to amaze me is how much Yamaha is still ahead in jet boat design as far as overall value, despite all the other great manufacturers like Glastron, Scarab, Chaparral entering the field.
One simple explanation may be that Yamaha jet boats have been developed as jet boats from the get go. In that regard, I see Scarab actually as having the second best (least flawed) design, as they draw directly from Seadoos, basically sticking with their great hulls. I love the BRP Rotax engines, in principle. But finding competent dealer support can be a nightmare. And the new Yamaha 1.8l engines, after the timing chain redesign, are about as robust as any engine ever built.
They are all a bit loud. I think Yamaha AR190 is the best value in that size, with fewest design flaws.

All purely my personal opinions, needles to say!

Thanks for the replies. When at the show and we where looking at the glastron gts187 he gave list price of $47 000, Can.
(In Canada boats cars etc cost about 33% more.) you can get a much better price on the Glastron they will play ball. The ar190 list is $37 000. Yamaha will not discount it unless your at the show and its last years model, but dealers don't move on the price much. Even if you pay full pop for the Yammie the value is undeniable. Another thing Yamahas hold their values pretty damn well, sometimes I think they are not worth buying used. What do you guys think?

Nothing bad to say about Glastron, but assuming you can get either for the same price, there is not even a question in my mind, I would go with a Yammie every time. Assuming we are talking about 2016+ AR190 with the swept forward tower and the "rudder", they also have much nicer fit and finish than early Yamaha 190s.
You would be happy with either, no doubt. Glastrons are awesome. Yammies have just had such a head start, and fixed most of the issues to the point it is a much safer bet for a budget buyer (of a jet propelled runabout).

Again, MHO ONLY.

Thanks for your opinion Swatski. I totally agree it's a no brainer. Like you said going with a 2016 with a rudder and that sweet looking tower. Clean out ports, better fuel mileage, better resale value etc..... Oh the realiabilty. Was hoping some Glastron fans could educate me on some pros for the gts187.
Thanks again for input.
Peter.
