I just bought a 2014 GMC Sierra SLE with the 5.3. I traded in a 2009 Sliverado LTZ with the 5.3, I was not impressed with the towing with the the 2009.

I am not sure what changed form 2009 to 2014 but the new truck pulls like a champ with the 5.3 and I would compare the 2003 1500HD 6.0 I had for 10 years.

Welp we have a 2010 Denali that has 60k miles on it. Tows the boat pretty good but I will say I prefer to tow with my 2011 Superduty Powerstroke. It just feels so much better towing with a vehicle that is made to tow rather than an afterthought. I do like the auto leveling on the Denali and would have loved to buy a 2015 but like everyone has already said it was just too much money. I paid less than half what a new one costs. Granted the technology is old in my 2010 but we will live with it until there are some used 2015 or 2016's out. The 6.2 is really strong although the mileage is horrible. Lets face it buying a larger vehicle like a Tahoe\Yukon\Escalade\Expedition you don't expect great mileage. I would be afraid to go any smaller unless it was an ecoboost. If you wait just a little longer Ford is coming out with a refreshed Expedition with the Ecoboost which tows very similarly as a diesel with the torque curve.

I believe you have gained two gears going from a 4L80 to a 6L80.

Im curious as to how many miles everyone has owned a GM/Ford SUV before a major repair had to be done? I still have the impression that the reliability is just not there compared a Japanese vehicle. I have 130K+ on my Pathfinder and no issues so far. (Knock on wood)

I just towed 5 people and my 242 filled with gear to Florida and back with the A/C on the whole time without a hitch. I love my Pathy!!

I usually keep my F-250's for 2 -2.5 years and when I get rid of them they usually have about 150,000 miles and I have never had a major problem with one. Nothing beats the way a F-250 tows

@RobA, it is not a SUV but my 2007 Sierra Denali (truck) made it to 136K before needing any major work. We towed 2500 miles round trip to Fort Lauderdale.

Well I've had my 2006 Escalade since the spring of 2010. I bought it with 37K, it now has 123K. No major work except a complete brake job by the dealer and I replaced the rear air shocks just this spring - one had a leak. It's pulled our boat(s) from Virginia to Alabama and back every year and back and forth a few times each year from the marina to the house. So roughly 2300 towing miles each year. That 6.0 is a great motor. We are upgrading though. We're currently waiting on our 2010 Escalade ESV with 36k to be delivered.

We are bouncing back and forth between a new 1794 edition Tundra and a GMC Denali.

Got a Ford F150 V6 EcoBoost this year... They are no joke. It has about the same HP/torque that my 2002 8.1L Chevy V8 had... But doesn't get 9mpg like the V8.

I love it and am glad I made the choice.
