Put the new 1 1/4" binnacle guard in the cockpit last night. It replaces the original 1" guard. The new one will house the Navpod to hold the Axiom 9 RV, P70 Auto pilot control and I60 wind instrument. The 1 1/4" tubing allows me to run all the power and communication wiring internally between the instruments and their transducers and not be seen in the cockpit. I had to modify the existing binnacle cover that held the 1" guard to it by cutting off the two " ears" so it would accept the new 1 1/4" S.S. guard bracket.
Then I had to drill and mount the bases for the guard. Found the cockpit sole to be cored with wood and 1 1/4" thick. Had to modify the bases by cutting off one corner of the base to fit close to the pedestal base. Drilled (2) 1 1/4" holes to allow the wires to pass into the boat without being seen.
Bedded the bases and screws with 4200, screwed them down and slipped the new angle guard in.
Ready to install the Navpod and wheel pilot. The marina quoted us $644 to remove the old guard and install new. Due to the modifications necessary it may have been more. Took me about 4 hours total to do the work, nearly half was modifying the S.S. Bases, hacksaw and belt sander. We are happy with it and happier to save $$.
Also installed this 12v TV, keeps the wife entertained while I am working on the boat and the Seawatch digital antenna works great.
Still need to hide these wires.
