We have been looking to add to our boating options

Put the new 1 1/4" binnacle guard in the cockpit last night. It replaces the original 1" guard. The new one will house the Navpod to hold the Axiom 9 RV, P70 Auto pilot control and I60 wind instrument. The 1 1/4" tubing allows me to run all the power and communication wiring internally between the instruments and their transducers and not be seen in the cockpit. I had to modify the existing binnacle cover that held the 1" guard to it by cutting off the two " ears" so it would accept the new 1 1/4" S.S. guard bracket.

Then I had to drill and mount the bases for the guard. Found the cockpit sole to be cored with wood and 1 1/4" thick. Had to modify the bases by cutting off one corner of the base to fit close to the pedestal base. Drilled (2) 1 1/4" holes to allow the wires to pass into the boat without being seen.

Bedded the bases and screws with 4200, screwed them down and slipped the new angle guard in.

Ready to install the Navpod and wheel pilot. The marina quoted us $644 to remove the old guard and install new. Due to the modifications necessary it may have been more. Took me about 4 hours total to do the work, nearly half was modifying the S.S. Bases, hacksaw and belt sander. We are happy with it and happier to save $$.
Also installed this 12v TV, keeps the wife entertained while I am working on the boat and the Seawatch digital antenna works great.

Still need to hide these wires.

This is such an awesome thread! I think that someday when the kids are all grown I'll have to follow in your footsteps. Sailboats - especially ones in this size range - really intrigue me. The appeal of being out on the water under the power of God's own wind is strong!

Recieved the graphic of the new name for the Beneteau today. Will be putting on soon. A few things to do first. Need to prep both sides astern to receive the vinyl. The old name has been removed already, but now we must apease Poseidon aka Neptune and a few other Gods of the wind in a ceremony for good luck. Link to the ceremony.

This is the new name. I chose Willow's Hawiian name and the Hawiian compass rose.

She is a direct decendant of King Kamehameha I, so it thought it would be fitting. Here it is on the dining room table with "peel off" still on.

Follow the rules to the letter!

Don't want Poseiden upset with you. Great name btw!
Safe sailing sir

Maybe you need a Greek interpiter just so nothing goes amiss in translation @Betik

@Scottintexas thank you bringing me in.

I take the boat renaming process very seriously. We actually made our 2017 trip under the original boat name even if we knew that the future name will be either Artemis or Medusa.
The purging process is very important too. I went as far as selling a 2 month old fixed VHF because the MMSI # was associated with the old name.

Both my boat and jet ski are named very strategically to appease Poseidon.

My boat's is named : HMS Artemis 553
HMS: commonly translated as His/Her Majesty Ship Note that Poseidon was often referred too as Majestic
Artemis: She is the Goddess of hunting and it is well documented that her bow and arrow was made by Cyclops. Note that Cyclops worked for Poseidon. Recall Odysseus blinding one the cyclopes and Poseidon being pissed at him for life.
553: During the naming process my 4 year old son was present. The Gods are fond of innocence and often communicate to us through kids. So completely out of the blue, my son said " Daddy put 553 on the boat". I had no idea, it looks and sounds stupid, but I did anyway. One day I was bored and I researched the meaning of the number "553". After reading the following, I felt comfortable that Poseidon had approved the name changing.

Angel Number 553 is a powerful sign of important life changes. These changes have come about due to your positive attitude and intentions to better your life. Your prayers and positive affirmations have manifested your desired changes, and ‘better’ is now on its way.
Angel Number 553 is a message that major life changes are around you and you may be feeling apprehensive or anxious about what lays ahead of you. Know that these changes are happening to advance you along your life path and to help you fulfill your soul mission. You are encouraged to take full advantage of the changes and the new opportunities that will present in your life.
Angel Number 553 is a message that the angels and Ascended Masters are overseeing the life changes you are currently experiencing and are ensuring that all goes to Divine plan.

My jet ski is named : CSN Orion
CSN: if you don't know what CSN stands for..... then you should move to NY or CA. It is a historical fact that we are not allowed to talk or displayed in this county anymore. As far as I know it is the only one cruising under its own power. If I find out of another one, I will rename it to CSS. But for now it will remain CSN.
Orion
: Orion was the boyfriend of Artemis and was said that he could walk on water. It so happens that he is believed to be the son of Poseidon.

My research and experience tell me that it is so much the ritual and the order that it happens as much as the honest respect for the deity in charge.

BTW: Neptune is that the Romans called Poseidon, so it is kind of nice to refer to him with his original name, but I am sure he wont take offence as long as the motivation is pure.

PS. I like your name choice. Very fitting for the occasion.

@Betik This one from Boatsafe.com http://www.boatsafe.com/nauticalknowhow/rename.htm is very westernized and does not translate as well as the actual hymn's to Poseidon in your link. Thank you! I dont want to screw this up. Maybe I should have you come here to officiate over the ceremony. I dont need the God of the Oceans and the King of Hawaii pissed at me. I know how his great great great great granddaughter can be.;):banghead:

Such a great thread. Very informative and what a journey it has been for you. @zipper wishing you well on your future endeavors and may the gods grant you safe passage through the great blue.

as long as the good intention is there, you will be safe

We had the marina do a short haul on the boat this week for a couple of reasons. First, we needed to know the specs of the prop. shaft. SAE or Metric, shaft dia., shaft taper. In order to get the correct prop. shaft bore. so we could order the new Max Prop easy 3 blade feathering prop. The shaft ended up being metric, 25mm dia. the prop nut is 16mmx1.5 and the taper is 1:10. Secondly, we needed to know how flat the hull was where we wanted to mount the Raymarine RV-200 thru hull transducer. Good news, it is pretty flat and no fairing block is needed. However the only place it can be mounted is where the existing speed paddle wheel transducer is. So they will need to pull that one, fiberglass patch the hole, drill the new hole forward of the existing to mount the new one over the new hole and the patch, as shown below. A few pics.

Also measured the draft and with full diesel, water tanks and empty waste we draw 6'7". Good to know.

Remind me never to rename my boat. Probably would consume the champagne on the way to the ceremony... Then I would be screwed.

As always, a very interesting journey you recount for us. Fair seas to you!

Well we have spent a few hours looking thru all storage lockers/compartments for any sign of the previous boat name on or in anything. Could not find anything. We thought we were good to schedule the ceremony. This evening I was installing the auto pilot and pulled out my tools and saw this.

A broken zipper and label from a sail bag long gone. Glad I found it. I do not want to feel Poseiden's trident stuck up my 6 or stern if you know what I mean. I am not a superstitious person but when it comes to this I am. Whew.

There is always something . Isn’t there LOL

The new prop. came today. Being a jetboat owner, I never thought I would be excited about a propeller. But this thing is a work of art. We felt the existing 2 blade folding Gori prop. had inadequate performance in reverse and excessive prop walk. We purchased a Max Prop Easy feathering 3 blade bronze prop. These have the benifit of having the same leading edge in forward and reverse nearly eliminating prop walk. The 3 blades have more surface area and are better balanced than 2 blade props. We will put it on when we haul the boat out to add a thru hull transducer in 2 weeks. Max Prop even includes a pair of snap ring pliers and a grease gun. A couple pics.

The feathering reduces drag while under sail. Using a fixed prop can reduce speeds by 1kt. or more. When your top speed, up wind, is 8kts., that is a big reduction in performance if you are into speed.

Awesome!

Indeed, this qualifies as "boat porn", in my book, lol.

Feathered position?!? I didn't even know they had such things, but it makes total sense. Cool.

Don't be a wimp. You don't need to pull the boat to put it on. Just swim down there. Don't forget the pics. :)

a scuba tank could come handy ....

I have (2) Al80's needing a current hydrostatic pressure test/stamp. I need to haul her to install a Raymarine RV-200 thru hull sonar transducer that requires a 2 3/8" hole in the hull. Not gonna drill that with a tank on.;)

Sounds like you are passing on a perfect opportunity to test that new bilge pump (isn't there a new bilge pump? pretty sure i have read about everything being fixed and/or replaced. musta been a bilge pump in there).

:)
