I always find weather folklore interesting. As a kid I can remember sayings like:

The devil is beating his wife (when the sun is shining and it is raining at the same time)

Red sky at night, sailer's delight.

Share your weather folklore, it will be interesting to learn new ones.

East is the Beast... When we get east winds in these parts we are due for some nasty weather

I grew up with the Devil beating his wife too!

Here is another one, is this something yawl have heard before?

While driving out to the boat dock with boat in tow and/or going to meet someone for a fishing trip you notice cows laying down in a field

My first thoughts are - the fish are not biting today.

Folklore in your neck of the woods?

Red sky at morn sailers be warned.

Red skies at night; sailor's delight.

I've heard that if you see cows laying down that it's gonna rain.

I grew up with the red sky thing too.

I've gone by the red skies as well even active duty it was mostly true in the navy.

Can't forget the persimmon seeds...folk, spoon and knife...if you have a spoon it is believed you are in for a very snowy winter. Or the old wooly worms.
