Who has the longest tow for the Bimini crossing? I towed 1200 miles last year. @Majorsmackdown is set to break any current records if he makes this trip this year.

St. Louis, MO is a quick 1,215.9 miles.
That beats 1,200 miles, right? ;)

Of those that have gone is the past, I believe @upperdeck had the longest tow from Menomonee Falls, WI at 1475 miles.

I think @tim h may edge me out by a few miles, towing from Port Washington, WI with a much larger boat too. But no one matches me for total miles, having done this trip so many times, some of them driving solo to boot. Wish I could make it this year!

I grew up driving to Florida for vacations every summer from either CT or Chicago....1300-1500 one way....interesting how one's childhood shapes your tolerances....I'm going to hazard a guess that @subysti 's wife didn't do that as a kid....or perhaps did it too often???

I enjoy a road trip now and then!

Or you can ship the boat down and fly everyone down and back. If I lived in Cali I would have still done this trip but I would have shipped and flown and had the boat shipped back but really what price tag can you put on a once in a lifetime experience plus bragging rights to all your friends on the lake when you tell them you took your boat to the Bahamas or anytime you show someone a pic of your boat and they ask wow that water is blue where did you take that picture then you get to explain your experience.

I don't know anyone else from around here planning to go - so I'm planning much to my chagrin (gas $$) to set a record. At least gas is relatively cheeep cheeep right now. I've wanted to do something like this for years - I can't wait !

@Majorsmackdown , there is nothing like it; you won't regret it. The only two things that I'm going to do differently this year regarding towing (that you and others may wish to consider) are: 1. Not have a full tank of gas in my boat. I thought that I could easily siphon the tank to lighten the load before leaving, but it wasn't possible. 2. Find a good mobile app so that I can avoid traffic problems on the road. Last year, I got held up by construction on I-10 near the Louisiana-Texas border, and it cost me an additional 6 hrs. My Garmin GPS is supposed to handle situations like this, but it did not. I have a friend who was travelling at the same time, and he detoured into New Orleans, had a great Cajun meal, and continued on his way without delay.

@MrMoose I've used the app called Waze for a while now. It does a good job alerting you of upcoming traffic, cars along the road, even speed traps and such. It runs off other users, so it has some off moments, but overall it's very good.

Holy cow - my kids get out of school so close to the departure date that I sure hope I don't get a 6 hour delay anywhere. I've installed waze but never used it - might be time to learn. Good tip, no need to pack that extra 400 or so pounds cross country - I'm not sure I would have remembered that - It seems wherever I go it's a lot of last minute mad scrambles.. thanks.
