The center ballast bag on my new 242XE seems to have developed a leak - the seal around where the quick disconnect fitting is does not stay flush to the fitting - and looking at the center tank it looks to me that if I plug the drain fitting I can just fill it as a hard tank.

Has anyone done this / are there any issues with doing it? Or alternately, is there actual proper documentation for the ballast system anywhere? I am fairly sure that I have no info at all on how to use or calibrate the system in any doc from Yamaha.

Thanks!

I wouldn't fill the center locker with water as that's just going to dump into your engine area and bilge when you pull the plug in the center locker and engine area plug. Get some lead weights.

I don't see why I couldn't pump the water out again with the ballast pump.

It is just going to slosh around and go over the upper walls of the compartment.....I'd just get the fitting fixed...way easier!

It's one thing to turn the center ski locker into a party cooler but it's another to try and fill it to use it as ballast. As Julian said it would just slosh around and leak out. Get the ballast fixed. In the meantime if you want ballast there get some lead weights and not flood your compartment.

As said above, this would be a bad idea, the water would go everywhere!

The fitting on the bag are cheap and you can buy them from Wakemakers. I would do that. Or it could be as simple as a faulty O-ring. Pictures are worth 1000 words.

@Osric
The fitting on my bag was leaking when it was really new( less than 10 hours), I took it to the dealer, the hose was routed wrong, and the fitting was broken. They replaced the fitting and re-routed the hose. Now works great.
