@bronze_10 the numbers coming out of China could very well been cooked. That does not take away from the chart as there is Italy and South Korea there. My point is that we have a LOT of cases and if we want to give the administration a fighting chance we need to do our part.

Self isolation is something that will dramatically reduce the change of ending up being welding in. Something which I do not see as a viable solution in a western country and especially in the U.S.

One more thing, if I had the authority I would deploy snipers with elephant tranquilizers with the following instructions. If you see anyone having a good time and laughing while within 6 feet for a duration of more than a minute, then shoot. Nobody will die of starvation if he/she is hibernating for a couple of days.

Right there you have the reason most people would call the authorities rather than have a "face to face" that has unknown results. You started your own statement with "VERY outraged" and even used all caps. This implies you are yelling right? So why in the heck would someone who does not know you risk the chance of your so called "face to face discussion" that could escalate due to differences of opinion. How many news stories started this very same way. And the resultant lesson learned was, I should have just called the authorities.

Dude I'm sure you're a good dude. The problem is, most people don't know that. Add to which they don't want to risk finding out what type of person you are under strained differences of opinion. The term "powder keg" comes to mind when you think of our quarantined situation.

Also, keep in mind the numbers problem. You are over there partying it up with your bros in the backyard. I'm a big dude and maybe I'd be okay approaching you guys, but some one smaller or not as confident might see a large group (who by default are all going to be on the same side of the opinion as you) and say F' that, I'm just gonna call the cops and avoid this shit.

So I would just ask you look at your situation from someone else's perspective and not be so "VERY outraged".
I'm not outraged at the difference of opinion, I expect that from time to time. I'm outraged at the lack of being a good neighbor, and the general "tattle tale" mentality that comes along with someone reporting to the police on that which they don't understand. This is a an extremely important distinction to be made. I'm genuinely NOT upset at someone in the community looking out for others. I'm outraged at the level to which it escalated so quickly without any other steps beforehand. The first step in resolving a conflict should NOT be call the authorities, it should be go talk to your neighbor and find out whats going on. Gather that information and understanding.

The person that reported us, instead, has the same mentality as a person that blocks the emergency lane on the interstate during a traffic jam. They have ZERO clue why people are driving in the emergency lane, they just "know" that they aren't going to get cut in line, and that person should wait their turn like everyone else. It's bullshit to have that kind of mindset. Complete and total bullshit. That person doesn't have the information to make that decision to impede access for someone else. Maybe the emergency lane driver is being an impatient jerk, maybe they've got a grandfather having a heart attack, or a mother about to give birth and need to get past in a hurry. The same mentality applies here. The reporting party hiding under anonymity has no idea if we were "throwing a corona party" or if we're just a large family trying to get through this like everyone else. However, instead of trying to understand the situation, they chose to judge the situation on their own preconceived notions, and cause unneeded work for the police force that most likely had something better to attend to......IMO an even better plan of action......simply letting others do their own thing and go on about your business. That IMO, is the best course of action in both of the above scenarios.

I get your point @BigN8 about not wanting to be confrontational. I really do see that side. They don't know me from anyone else in the world. I could be completely unhinged, I could be the next Big Lebowski.

In your words of using ones ability to listen, understand, and act, wouldn't the first step be to have a conversation with the person you disagree with, or at the very least do more than a casual drive by in the car to really observe what was happening here? We weren't brandishing rifles, patrolling a perimeter and acting generally aggressive here, we were having drinks in our back yard with kids running around, how menacing could we have really appeared that someone couldn't walk up, say hello, and chat for a minute? As secondary indicators, there weren't extra cars lining the street, loud music playing, or any other indicators of some large inappropriate gathering of people. From my seat, it feels overly strong that the reporting party was being more concerned with following the rules, than making an informed decision.

Overall, for me, the idea of calling and reporting to the police about random persons for something of this nature is so foreign, so obtuse, that I have a very difficult time understanding it. If it directly impacts my family, my community, my neighbors, or myself.....I'm going to attempt to solve that issue. The first step in that process is understanding the problem. Maybe I'm in the minority here, but that understanding begins with conversations, not phone calls to the police.

This is something I try to teach my children, you don't know the other person situation, so don't assume. Someone speeds past you clearly driving way past the speed limit, we don't know why they are doing that, don't assume they are just being a speed demon as there could be other reasons. Heaven forbid the day we have an emergency and need to speed down the shoulder and someone blocks it because they think we are being an asshat. Kid acting weird, yelling and screaming, don't assume the kids out of control, could be lots of reasons for what's going on. As for this Virus thing, we all do are part, stay informed, wash your fricken hands and this thing will pass. Hopefully people will continue to walk, enjoy each others company, etc. Not sure I'd hang out with my next door neighbors right now, but then again, I never hang out with them anyway. Oh yeah, wash your hands!!

I agree... 100% i think this isnt easy and there are some long ranging effects but I think it is the right thing to do.... all I am stating is the sharp upward curve, atleast at some level, has to do with a dramatic increase in testing.

(I think we all would call Chinas numbers bs.)

I just wish people would seriously social distance. If u wanna see what people are actually doing just go to lowes on a weekend. (Well dont because then u would be part of the problem), its packed!

Officials announced today that a China was lying on their numbers. Not surprising at all and would not surprise me one bit of Wuhan was still a major hot spot. Can’t trust the CCP.

China has to be lying about their numbers:

China: Population of 1.35billion and 81,000 cases

USA+Italy+Spain: population of 440million combined have over 430,000 cases

Social distancing is a term applied to certain nonpharmaceutical infection control actions that are taken by public health officials to stop or slow down the spread of a highly contagious disease. The objective of social distancing is to reduce the probability of contact between persons carrying an infection

@jacoviii Cool idea! How? Wife’s an ob/gyn and I’d love to find something like that.
Question though is would it work for sure with this crap?

let's not jump to conclusions here @haknslash . What I heard the President say was " China is going to buy $250 billion worth of stuff from the U.S., so we don't know".

Disinfection with UV radiation takes time, would be better to mount in some sort of box so you can leave it on for a while. Amount of time required is a function of wavelength and intensity.

With boat ramps and Marinas closing in areas, some can't get out to ski or wakeboard or even surf. The people will not be "held down". You take that away, we do this. I know, after 3+ weeks self isolating, you can go bat shit crazy if you don't have something to do. Ya, kind of a pun there.

The UV sterilization is valid, off the top of my head I think 254 nm is the wavelength you’re looking for. We use that for micro control in water systems, basically it degrades the genetic material (DNA RNA) in organisms, which doesn’t necessarily “kill” living microbes but renders them sterile (hence the term sterilization). I’d assume viruses are just as susceptible, the time needed to do this is very short (seconds depending on intensity, typically a 60 mJ/cm2 dose is standard) I’d definitely take precautions not to expose your skin or eyes to it though!
