So, as has been the norm lately, I am inundated with people coming to my front door wanting to discuss my political views, or proposals or my voting. Annoys me to no end!

Anyhow, I am emptying the pool so we can take it down this year and working outside my house. A lady walks up to me and asks me if I am "My Name", which I don't respond because it is non of her damn business and all I ask her, politely is "How Can I Help You?". Again she asked if I am "My Name" and again I ask her, polity, "How can I help you?" without acknowledging my name.

Anyhow I think she gets it, then asks me what Party I am and if I know about such and such Proposal and can she give me information, a handout, etc. etc. I politely let her know that I don't discuss such matters and come election time I will vote accordingly based on my research and alignment with each issue and each candidate.

She is now annoyed, whipts out her tablet and types some things in and then asks me can I take your picture..... "Wanted to take my Picture?" WTF is that all about??? Anyhow, I tell her she can get off my property, BUT if she would like to help me tear down the pool and move it then I would give her the time to discuss with her the Proposals she was soliciting for........ She turned around and "Stampled" down to the house across a street. My camera got a picture of her and recorded video and sound of the whole conversation.....

Sigh.....

Maybe it is time to get the Admiral another large Dog like she wanted. :) And/Or move out of the burbs back into the country.....

This is my attempt to stop the solicitation.
And we have a 4’x6’ sign when you pull into our development that says No Solicitation Allowed.

I would do both.

We have no soliciting signs at the front of our community and I have Ring doorbell cameras. We had a person soliciting home improvement services come to our house. My wife said “no thank you”, got a bunch of lip from the guy and then he punched her car when leaving. Got it all recorded. I shared the experience and my opinion on their Yelp page. ?

I just had a great idea for a seasonal business: Rent-a-Rottweiler

Should be a poll, lol. I would also say both. No solicitors here, other than people wanting to hunt.?

I live in an area that has a huge fundraiser between Thanksgiving & Christmas, and have No Soliciting signs on both doors. STILL had some idiot taking the HOLIDAY FUNDRAISER as an opportunity to try telling everyone how terrible candidate X was, and get signatures for a recall petition.

Pointed to my sign, she told me "oh, I'm not soliciting anything, so it's OK". Told her we're having a fundraiser, and your abusing this time is wholly inappropriate, how do you think this makes you look? Proceeded to have her start chastising me - wished her a Merry Christmas while closing the door in her face, and called the cops. She was escorted away a few minutes later (we often end up with traffic control, and she was even bothering people driving along within the neighborhood)

Who thinks this is a good look for them, and can't recognize the signs of "GTFO" from people? Read the effing room, morons!

I guess cause I’m in sales I do t mind solicitors. They are just people hired to do a job and make a living. I’m also very good at dispatching them because I know what they want, the questions they typically ask and how to beat them to the punch. In the grand scheme of things how bad is it to just accept them, dispatch them politely and get on with your day? In the case of the fundraiser person I bet for every 1 guy that slams the door in her face she gets 20 that are polite or give some money.

In my opinion, this sort of campaigning should be illegal. The only campaigning that should be allowed is material you actively choose to partake in. Example, you go to a town hall meeting, or watch a debate. PACs and SuperPACs should also be illegal, and all campaigning should only be allowed to be done by the official campaign for an elected official, who should br required to disclose all donations to their campaign. Maybe even every campaign message should require the funding source be included.

What really grinds my gears is the signs. In NC we were the first house in the neighborhood on a residential through way. Every election people would come.put their damn signs in my yard. Every year I'd pull them up and throw them out. Then they'd put a new one down and I'd throw that one out. I wanted to have the campaign offices cited for littering. If you want to use my property for advertising, you better come with a rental agreement for that space.

Luckily our current neighborhood has a lot of retirees and is gated. They put signs on the outside of our perimeter fence a few times and one of the retirees pulled them down (and likely called to complain about it).

Fun fact, I unplugged our doorbell.

At first it was because the battery was dead or something. But now I just don't want people ringing it. If you need to speak to me.in person, call or text first lol.

I don’t discuss my political views with my wife, sure as he!! ain’t discussing with a total stranger. I’ve got enough going on around the house so like you @HangOutdoors i’d be asking them if they wanted to help out and if not then I don’t have the time to “chat”.

I don't either, lol. That is also my prerequisite for getting permission to park and hunt on our land. Help. Firewood or tapping trees, they have a choice.

I would do both.
I live in a neighborhood with one Entrance/Exit only. We're on the far edge of the county so we're borderline 'burbs and country.

Also have a 50lb lab mix that, while super friendly, will bark with excitement as she charges towards her invisible fence boundary in pursuit of free pets/treats from strangers. The neighbors that walk every evening know her and welcome the excitement. Random folks showing up that haven't seen her before often flee to the other side of the street.

Haven't had but maybe 2-3 solicitors in the 7yrs I've been in the house.

In my opinion, this sort of campaigning should be illegal.

I don't mind walking around talking to people. Ringing doorbells is even OK. IF, and that's a big if, they're considerate about it. @HangOutdoors was outside, and I'm assuming looks like an approachable dude, if not a busy one. She could've walked up and just said "Hi, I'm out trying to raise support for XYZ movement, can I have a minute of your time", then He could've said "No thanks, Kinda busy here, good luck!" and they could have parted ways. Not his fault at any level for the way things went down. She was pushy and rude IMO.

I would hate to see this sort of grass roots support gathering lost all together. I would welcome my local officials to come walk by and talk to the people he/she intends to serve. It's all about the approach though, and I totally see your point on not wanting to be bothered. I just think making it illegal would be a step too far.

If it's the elected official themselves, I would be a little more receptive. If it's some intern in the campaign or something like that, gtfo.

Personally, I'd rather people have to choose to participate in politics. People who don't actively make that choice (vs someone came to their door or was on an advertisement and asked for their vote on something) don't have enough context to really make a sound decision.

+1 for no solicitation signs. We just got this one so far so good. The dogs know if your in the driveway, I don't need anyone to amp it up 10x by knocking/ringing doorbell.

Curious if we will still get solar people, they LOVE when my garage is open and see a car plugged in. They think it's an easy sale.

Solicitors are the scum of the earth. I get they are just doing their job, but they should get a different job. I usually go with "Please leave my property, and close the door", if I even answer the door at all.

Edit: For those unable to read (either English, or between the lines), scum of the earth is hyperbole.

At my last house one political party was very active with volunteers going door to door. Multiple visits leading up to any election. Even would show up on Election Day and offer to drive me to the polls.

Never had a visit from the other side; guess they were too busy going to work.

Scum of the Earth??? Wow. I can think of much worse than a young kid out there pounding the pavement hustling for a dollar. In the dead of summer when one rings my doorbell and I tell them I'm not interested I'll even go so far as to offer the kid a cold bottle of water or a Gatorade. I have respect for a kid that is willing to hustle that hard rather than ride the government tit. I'm sure they won't make a career out of it, but I guarantee you it will teach them some life lessons, like how to still be polite to an asshole that slams the door in their face and calls them scum of the Earth.
