Tried to start the boat today and both engines won't start.

I have checked the the throttles, the kill switch lanyard and the two buttons under the rear hatch.

Nothing seems to work

both engines turn over and every now and again it sounds like it'll start but it doesn't.

The last couple of times i gassed up with a jerry can water came out of the vent hole. maybe a couple of teaspoons. I thought it was odd but the engines ran fine yesterday for 2 hours! Started up multiple times on the water etc. I did put in a jerry can of fuel this morning but it was the same batch from yesterday.

The boat is on the water now.

What else can i check?

Thanks,
James

How much fuel was in it before the first can fill up?

When you say you checked certain switches, especially the lanyard switch, what do you mean? Did you use an ohm meter to very the contacts work?

I wonder if the battery voltage is a little low, preventing proper firing.

Even if you go a little bit of water in your tank you should be good. But as a safe measure I would put in a fuel additive to remove the water.

the boat had about 35 gallons when i filled up 7.5 gallons today.

I just checked the throttle position, removed and reinstalled the safety lanyard and manually depressed the two buttons in the clean out hatch.

The engines sound really rough when trying to start.

When is that last time that you changed your plugs?

I asked about the fuel because we have had members that try to refuel before the tank was below half and the gauge was not giving a good reading, much less in the tank then expected??

changed spark plugs this spring and i have put 12 hours on them already

Battery cables ? are the connections tight at the terminals ?

Fuel, Air and Spark......check these 3 things. If you are missing one of the 3 then you are not going to start. Since you have checked all of the safety features check this. Make sure that you are getting fuel to the cylinders ( wet spark plugs) , check spark on all cylinders ( insert plug into boot and ground to the head ).

That really concerns me, water came out of the vent for the boat or the vent on the jerry can ? Either way where ever the water is it's not good,

How did you know it was water coming out?

Maybe as the water settled over night there was finally enough to cause an issue,

I assume he meant that water came out of the gas tank vent near the filler hose. Probably condensation in the vent line being forced out by the air being displaced by the added gas. Definitely add Stabil and ethanol gas treatment!

Thanks! I tightened up the battery cables and it started!

It's funny that it cranked but didn't start

CHICKEN DINNER !!!!

I had a similar issue last year, it was interesting how the engine responded to an intermittent connection........

The engine computers are a lot more sensitive to low voltage than the starter. Glad you got it fixed!

yes water came out of the boat gas vent beside the filler cap. about 2 teaspoons. I always put stabil in during the season at the in use dosage. I just dumped another quarter bottle in just case.

That's awesome that you got it figured out. @JHC212X

Nice, Another win for the forum!!!
