Looking at building a 50mph omni-directional housejetboat. The design would be spherical and about 10 feet in diameter. Very light and nimble. Along the perimeter would be 10+ evenly distributed high-powered waterjets.

The Craft would be capeable of going 50mph in 2 seconds forward, and backwards in the same time, as well as diagonal, controlled by a joystick.

Inspired by:

jet capsule updates U.F.O houseboat for open water

floating city of modular, eco-friendly pyramids is now enrolling citizens

Very light (made of bamboo?), 1000lbs or less (not counting jets). Preferably wired for solar.

Designed for use in calm waters / SEA.

What are your thoughts on a high-speed housejetboat that can move in any direction "on a dime" ? Like a nimble tiny house hovercraft, except a jetboat.

Moves like these:

But in all directions. Also a house.

My "in the box" thinking says...

You need a planning hull design to reach that speed above the water, so it can't be that flat and round underwater. Omni Directionality is out? Maybe the capsule sits on a planning hull and can rotate?

Nozzle and propulsion are heavy and expensive. perhaps a rotating single system instead? or a weak one for rotation ( think bow Thurster or trolling motor) to aim, and then the real power to make it go-go?

Good Luck

Aside of "because I want to".......Why? Have an intended market or use?

If you plan to have a "houseboat" move like that, you better make sure everything is bolted down or stowed away securely!

I like the concept. My first question was how do you maintain a clean flow of water through the jets without cavitation? turning on/off adjacent pumps could turn it however, how would you get any intake to a forward pump when trying to reverse...

Extended intakes: Rubber hoses that are weighted, and dangle like a jellyfish tentacle in either direction of movement.

Pressurized or not, as long as there is a steady flow of water and the tentacles are long enough they should always be in reach of water.

Could even do water tanks

I imagine the amount of drag they would create would negate the 50mph goal without some serious, probably v8 based, horsepower.

And what happens when one touches the bottom?

Topography sensors and retracting mechanisms...

There's a million ways. Or just don't drive it in shallow water. Aux motor for docking.

Could waterjets have hydroelectric energy recapture?

Forget the motors just drag it around and anchor it

or park it next to your space house

seriously though I would rent this in a heart beat if these were available on Long island houses on the water start at 1million and average 3million

@Ronnie posted this more realistic type of floating camp someone please build these on Long Island and put them around shelter island

Looks like the space house has a Yamaha Exciter parked next to it.

To the OP....dangling intakes would cause drag. Tanks would weigh a ton. A house requires lots of stuff to really BE a house....furniture, sink, toilet etc all that weight would prevent a round hull from planing. House boat with jet pumps....not really a need for speed there, normal outboard propulsion would be more efficient.

Too easy.

Build yourself a spaceship-house boat with a convex bottom and put a steerable pod drive right in the center.

Set the trim on the drive to keep the “bow” out of the water and the rest of the saucer acts as a wing. You’d have one hell of a wake in the back though.

If I can find the number for the guy that built my flying bulldozer I’ll pass him your contact info.

So much good stuff in this post!

Do you really mean 0-50mph in 2 seconds? I'm thinking this is a typo--if it's not I applaud your lunacy. Formula One boats accelerate 0-100mph in 5 seconds, so 0-50 in 2s is faster than the fastest boats that exist. It's a typo, right? ... right? I really hope it's not.

I bet you won’t.
A 10’ diameter ball. My bathroom is bigger
Now you are going to put living room, bed room, kitchen, bathroom. a motor that has enough hp to move it up to 50mph in 2 seconds, a solar system, 10 jets and Keep it at 1000 lbs. I am spending the night at bethel woods museum with my kid tonight so all I can say is.
