The courage these men had and to persevere through some of the hardest conditions. That's why they call them the "Greatest Generation".

Visited the US cemetery in Cambridge when I was in England with the Army. All you could do was stand in stunned silence when you see the row upon row of crosses that seem to go on for miles

So they did, sorry to of missed them.

I was watching a 2 hour BBC documentary last weekend, very realistic reenactment of the landing, an interview has stuck in my head, an English navel officer was in charge of 8 LCA's, he was piloting one with American soldiers, 116th infantry. He said " They were only boys" farmer lads" he called them, "the front dropped down and I watched every one die, I then had to go back to pick up more solders"
This veteran was crying while he told this story, as was I. After 70 years he still grieved for them. Jimmy Green.

Yes, they did, among many others, on June 6, 1944, 160,000 Allied Forces took part in the D-Day invasion that would change the course of WWII.

The Allies anticipated many wounded soldiers and casualties. The Army spent two years planning for the medical treatment of the wounded. 30,000 stretchers and 60,000 blankets were ordered to be on hand at the onset of the invasion.

A tribute to our British brothers in arms
