The cover/floor over the gas tank is "soft". Seems this is where the kids jump into the boat, hang from the tower and drop down, etc...repeated abuse has broken down the fiberglass. Any else? I'm guessing a new layer of fiberglass on the underside will fix it with a possible reinforcement spar of wood or aluminum maybe...I have to take off all the fatmat sound deadening first( ) winter project for sure . 5th season on this boat, guess it's getting old too.

Mine is only a year younger than yours. No sign of softness on mine. The bottom of mine does have (3?) reinforcing bars.

Might want to look at buying a new hatch. It will cost you a bit, but I am not optimistic that a layer of fiberglass will fix the issue. If repeated jumping on the deck there has broken the epoxy, the proper repair will be to grind out that broken epoxy and re-layer the fiberglass. Given the thickness of that piece, you may wind up grinding right through it and having to try to make the whole thing flat in the middle. In short, a messy repair.

many times the "soft" issue is rotting core because the gasket around the table post isn't sealing good or there is some other intrusion area,

I would remove the latch and look at the exposed wood from the hole cut and judge it's condition, I would also carefully look at the underside around the edges where the wood meets the fiberglass top for cracks,

I’m not sure about the newer boats, but the 230s have some sort of shitty balsa wood core sandwiched in between two layers of thin fiberglass. There are some threads on hatches here. You can use the rot fix stuff or grind it out as mentioned. It’s a pain in the ass to grind it out (ask me how I know) and I’ll probably go the rot fix route next time.
