When I was watching my new Samsung 4K TV the other day it brought up a message that the input video resolution was low. That got me to thinking......am I resticting my resolution by running video through an older Denon receiver? My current setup is I have all HDMI inputs running through my Denon receiver, then one HDMI output from the Denon to the Samsung TV. So if my Denon is 7-8 years old and is limited to max 1080p resolution does that mean I am only sending 1080 p to the TV even if the video from the satellite box is higher?

If that is the case then I need to either
a) upgrade my home theater receiver or
b) run the HDMI inputs from each source straight to the TV and split the sound???

1080P shouldn't be low signal on a 4K TV. very little is actually broadcast in 4K, or 1080P for that matter unless your receive upconverts it to 1080P from 1080i or 720P. Some of the streaming services do 4K, but depend on the device and bandwidth available.

you could run all to the TV then maybe do optical out to the receiver? Some have bidirectional connection where you can run HDMI from the TV to the input of the receiver and use that for your audio.

Both hdmi inputs From the Tv and receiver have to say "arc" on them to comunicate back and forth. An older Dennon may not have that. I have an older Dennon, I went from the directv box to the tv (make sure it's a 4 k input on the tv sometimes only certain ones are 4K compatible) then i ran from the optical out of the tv to the SAT optical in on the Dennon. Make sure the tv is set to receiver and not speakers.

This probably the best bet.

Of course, may not hurt to upgrade to something that supports 4k, HDR, Dolby Vision, and Dolby Atmos.

That 8 year old Denon may not even support 1080P....so I'd route around it, or use it as an excuse to get a new amp! LOL Then use the old amp as power to more speakers for the New Years Eve dance party! :-)

My amp cost $1600 so I've been a little reluctant to replace it. If ain't broke don't fix it. Oh wait you guys fix everything before it breaks around here lol.

You could get a solid receiver with all new tech for $600-$800
