Ozempic linked to a doubling of sudden vision loss

LOL, not really! šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

Iā€™m not getting into a COVID argument and getting banned for upsetting the forum owner. You need to dig into the truths we know today that we were told was misinformation in 2020. You can start with the twitter files. Pretty easy to find stuff today and commonly accepted now.

@FSH 210 Sport The Epoch Times is Falun Gongā€™s propaganda publication. Not anything that I would want to be associated with.

Also not anything that I wish to pay for the bandwidth for you to spread.

Well Bruce, thatā€™s why I provided other news outlets, as linked above, that were running the same story before I posted it here. A simple internet search will yield even more news sources than I linked are running this story. I always cross check stories I read across the spectrum of news agencies to check the veracity of said story before I post about such things.

Again this study was done by the Dutch as noted above, to which I had answered your question about if I knew who was behind this story, a fact that you appear to have ignored, as well as the fact this story was carried by a very wide swath of news agencies including nbc news (whom youā€™ve linked above running the story about the epoch times) and not just the epoch times, are running the story as well so Iā€™m at a loss as to why why you think this news regarding Ozempic is propaganda, and have responded with a story from another news agency to seemingly discredit this news story but the Ozempic news is carried by the very news agency that published the story about the epoch times, and are now turning this into an ad hominem attack against me personally.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but everyone is not entitled to their own facts, and in this case, the facts are that Dutch scientists have found a correlation with Ozempic and a doubling of the risk of sudden vision loss with its use, and their findings have been carried world wide by legacy news agencies. Future studies will determine what level, if any, of causation of Ozempic and sudden vision loss there is. This type of story has played out this way with many drugs and or substances that were once thought safe, initial studies or findings that illustrated danger had doubt cast upon them and in the end said substances and or drugs were found to indeed be a threat, and during the period of further studies and testing many others were afflicted with maladies associated with these substances, for which there was no cure. Mesothelioma caused by asbestos exposure, depression / extreme anxiety and exacerbated migraine headaches caused by Botox and Fen-Phen the weight loss drug that caused heart valve damage at the least and strokes that resulted in people dropping dead come to mind. Interesting fact about Fen-Phen being removed from the market place, people freaked out, not because of what it was doing to people but because people couldnā€™t acquire it anymore. People are awesome.

The vision loss associated with Ozempic in this story is permanent according to the Dutch researchers, so people should know all of the risks, transparency, so they can make an educated decision about its use. Iā€™m sure the Dutch researchers did not take this lightly when they decided to publish their findings knowing full well the waves of public criticism and pressure by the manufacturers of this drug they would face, but in my mind stood by their hypocritical oath ā€œdo no harmā€.

Wonder if it's ALL semaglutides, or ozempic in particular. It was listed, along with a long laundry list of other side effects. I was one of the "lucky" 5% that it caused to turn yellow. It was easy to ditch, as I hadn't yet reached the target dose, and I have a great relationship with my doc, so it was easily decided to drop it.

I'd look at the dosage they're finding it at, as I've heard my dosage was 15x LESS than what some are taking, but I dunno what they were taking it for.

Weight loss dosages are ridiculously higher than my diabetic dosage was, and I can't fathom how those people were affording it, or why they'd pay that much, vs a meal program shipped to the house for far less money

You are trying to make a big deal out of a sensational story while sharing a link from a foreign propaganda source.

Once again your spreading of propaganda is not something that I wish to fund. Please take it elsewhere.

This is interesting. Was the yellow related to jaundice or something else?

No, not at all. I have 6 nurses in the circle of friends we hang out with, and ALL of them were forever looking at my eyes, giving me a once-over, etc. Bloodwork and liver testing was all perfectly normal, but I tracked that side effect down from the ozempic website listing every side effect.

It took 3-4 months to really manifest, and about that long for it to go away. I can't recall the exact %, but it was one of the rarer side effects, and it really didn't show up until I was at a 1mg dose. My pharmacist was surprised to hear about it as well, after seeing the change to a different Med, and told me they had people taking multiple times larger doses than that, and they had never even heard of it as a possibility.

I'm on a different Med now, with better results than ozempic, only without the more rapid weight loss. The weight loss for me is far less, about 1-2 lbs a month, and I suspect it's due to the dosage, and me not taking it for that purpose, but to regulate blood sugar more effectively.

I was not a fan of the ozempic at all - other side effects were brutal for me, but started to taper off as I reached the planned "full" dose, although it never went away completely

No need for me to dig into anything, as at the time I was pretty active in the original tread, trying to share my firsthand knowledge about how the FDA functioned.

From a scientific standpoint, there is not much change from what we knew then versus what we know now. No doubt, the CDC early masking advice was not very effective at preventing the spread of the virus, but the science behind understanding the dangers of the virus and the effectiveness of the vaccine have not substantially changed. This also still holds true regarding treatment regimens at the time for the virus.

I recall you being very upset about the employment requirements for mandatory vaccination, and thatā€™s a fair viewpoint to have had. This is just one of several Covid implemented policies that are worth reviewing if we ever find ourselves in a similar situation in the future. There is a difference, however, between science and policy. ā€œThuthsā€ are the science. How we interpreted the science and implemented it, was the policy.

While Covid May no longer be the health concern it was five years ago, it still worth remembering that an estimated 1.2 million Americans died because of the virus and that countless other deaths were prevented by the vaccines.

Oh good, another thread for the completely unqualified to muse about medicine.

There's only one semaglutide, available as Ozempic for diabetes (0.25 to 2mg/wk) or Wegovy for weight loss and cardiac risk management (0.25-2.4mg/wk). Nobody is taking 15x the 'diabetes dose'. 0.25-0.50mg/wk are titration doses, not therapeutic ones. There are other drugs in class that are not semaglutide that come up to 15mg/week, but there's no comparison to be made about the quantity of dose for two completely different drugs.

Have you seen people that have been affected, and exhibited yellowing? I'd be interested in the % and if it tracks with the ratio that's been indicated.

Related, have other similar drugs like Trulicity and others had a similar side affect (yellowing) and if so, does there seem to be a dosage at which it starts to show up?

For people taking these types of drugs, it's worth looking at the laundry list of side effects - read the info given when picking up the meds, and talk to your Dr prior.

This all makes sense nowā€¦.hereā€™s a picture of the esteemed @drewkaree from the Sand Bar Bash on Lake Winneconne last summer. He was a big hit with the childrenā€¦ā€¦.

100% agree, its important to be aware of the side effects, even the rare ones so that you can react and inform your doctor. Yellowing (jaundice) with normal liver function is usually a gallbladder symptom, and gallbladder issues are more common with any type of rapid sustained weight loss. Jaundice is listed on the Ozempic label as a 'call your doctor immediately' effect (yellowing of skin/eyes, clay colored stool) - observed rates in the literature are around 1-2% for most GLP agonists.

Anytime you get a new medication, should always (in addition to doing your own research) ask your doctor what are the important symptoms to be on the lookout for where it relates to rare but serious side effects. These drugs absolutely carry risk, but they bring a lot of benefit. Most of the risks develop slowly, and paying attention and titrating appropriately will be all you need to do to manage them. More often than not when you read about these horror stories of paralyzed guts (which are a thing), you find someone with a telemedicine provider who raced up the dose ladder as fast as they can and ignored earlier warning signs of pain and constipation. Listen to (and look at) your body.
