CaptainBarker's Project Yamaha AR192

So the 1.8 engs get around 1800hrs then the timeing chain goes? Is that correct. What other issues do the 242"s commonly have?

Well we operate in salt water, and run the boat pretty much sunrise to sunset 7 days a week. I do ALOT of tubing and wakeboarding all day long so our problems are a little different than the regular boater....but yeah around 1500hrs we do timing chains bc we noticed they break around 1800 hrs...intermediate bearings usually get replaced 2 or 3 times in those hours. California models are garbage in salt water the oxygen sensors aren't made to have saltwater ran over them through the exhaust and constantly needed replaced. I'll run into little electrical bugs from time to time but it's usually salty air/water related....the touch screen starts getting less reliable after about 2 summers in the sun...

Basically I'm putting heavy loads all day long on these boats. It's a 6 pack boat commercial wise so 99% of the time I have a family of 6 plus me and the mate so always 8 ppl on the boat swinging a 2-4 person tube. And due to multiple trips through the day the boat doesn't rest bc the passenger never get tired..

Good to here just wanted some insight. Looking forward to watching you bring that 192 back to life.

Have you thought about doing a wrap if the gelcoat doesn't polish out?

The black strip is polishing out decent...just inching along pc by pc20210317_165157.jpg
By the way should I move this restoration thread to a different category?

@Juilan we can move it to general. I planned on mixing this AR192 restoration with summer adventures on the AR242 charter boat. Kind of sharing pictures, and videos of fun, plus what breaks, and the repairs of these boats when they're ran hard all summer as work boats. Also is it possible to change the title if moved?

Wow. Great job so far on a woefully neglected boat. It is also great to have your background here on the forum! Welcome!

Well I'm for sure a lifer working in the watersports industry, and wrenching on yamaha/seadoo jet drive boats...I'm an odd duck being a master captain and certified technician hahaha

You know the saying: "Find a job you love and you'll never work a day in your life"
Perhaps you are proof of that. Haha

Moved and renamed.....

Great work, OP!! Curious, what was the secret sauce for cleaning the seats?

We do everything off of the tower there's even a built in swivel up top. Only thing we run into is after about 2 seasons the line rubs through the bimini right along the back but that's summer's of 7 days a week 9 am to sunset.
