Chart Plotter Placement on newer boats with connext? Simrad Go7 installed

IMG_1033.JPG IMG_1034.JPG IMG_1035.JPG IMG_1038.JPG Got my plotter in today..... having a hard time deciding where to mount it.
Thoughts?

My screen isn't as big but fits perfect hereimage.jpeg

That's a big'un @Benny Sibbitt. My RAM mount is just strong enough to hold my 5" Garmin when mounted on the right side forward of the throttles as shown in previous post. I'm thinking that your larger unit (7"?) needs to be mounted directly on the dash, unless you can devise a right-side custom mount that doesn't need RAM. I still think that the right side, above the window sill is the best spot. Good luck.

@Benny Sibbitt - Is that the go7? Same one I want to put in at some point. How does it look placed in front of the tachs? Connext displays the rpm so don't really need to see them. My other thought is a bunch of work but may be worth it. Make a new dash hood and dash panel out of fiberglass or carbon fiber to fit the go7 where the tachs are and relocate the tachs inside the helm (they need to be connected for the electrical to work right). This way the go7 would be cleanly panel mounted and look factory. You could even cut into the original dash hood and use it as a base to modify from before recovering the whole thing in vinyl, fiberglass, or carbon fiber.

@Mainah funny, that is what I was thinking
I think this unit is a little big to fit in the dash without modifying the the top dash.
But yes, I thought about removing rpm gauges also. That would be real clean look.
Then I keep hearing my wife's voice in my head, "don't over think this, you will probably upgrade in 5 years".

I think i am going mount like below but about an 1" or 2 lower with a ram mount

@ACrews, it's time for you to chime-in on this discussion. I think that you mounted your chartplotter in the same spot that @Benny Sibbitt is considering.
@Benny Sibbitt I was very hesitant to mount in that spot too, but after mounting in that spot I realized how little I ever looked thru the windshield anyway. Mine was q Garmin 74dv20161029_162706.jpg

I normally sit above the winsheld so I don't think it would be in the way either.
How did you run your wires?
I think I am going to use a ram mount and mount it to the steering wheel cover.
it will sit about 2 or inches lower than your gps placement.
In one of my photos above, there was mount placed there, but very hard to see in the photo
Yes simrad go7

@ACrews I am installing a Garmin 74 dv/ sv.. my dash is different than yours. I mean going to use a ram mount with a sea suckered suction mount in the windshield. I hope..

@Benny Sibbitt - When you pointed it out I can see the ram mount. Which model mount is that? Is there one that 2 inches shorter?

I have a few ram mounts I am mixing matching trying to figure out how to mount. The one in the photo has a suction mount, If I take that part out and use the mount ball, I will gain almost 2"

This is one of the mounts I have http://www.rammount.com/part/RAM-111U-B

Don't start me lying on wiring! I didn't want the boat to burst into flames so I had my dealer wire it! Haha. Best I could tell they tapped into the wires behind the instrument panel. Wire was ran up thru dash. Screenshot_2017-02-12-22-40-46.png

Got the simrad go7 installed today..... I am really happy with the placement, looks great at this location
I didn't install the transducer, I don't fish so I think am going to get the forward scan transducer. I would rather see what's ahead of me then under. Very solid mount - 1 1/2 ball ram mount.

Love that location. Would be sweet if it could display a rear view camera during water sports.

Love those GO7's. I want one! Lol

@Benny Sibbitt Sweet! Could you post a link to the forward transducer/scanner if you do not mind. I thought those were really pricey. Do you know how well those work?

Would be nice if they incorporated a video input in these go7's and in our connext screen.....
man the things we could do!
