Chart Plotter Placement on newer boats with connext? Simrad Go7 installed

@swatski Forward transducer are 699.00 little pricey, cheaper than previous
http://www.simrad-yachting.com/en-U...Transducers/ForwardScan-Transducer-en-us.aspx

I would Love to see the bottom elevation ahead of me!
I heard they work well, I am still doing my research on these.
You do need to drill a hole in the bottom of your boat for these but I rather have a through hull than a big transducer in the back of my boat.
I would pay that much if those work, but it is such new technology.

Have you considered an "in hull" transducer? They seem to be alot simpler to install than a transom mount. Tho they may not produce the results you're looking for as far as forward looking.

Ive got a couple trips this summer to new lakes where we'll be fishing, so i sort of wanted to get a cheap fish finder. I was looking at something like this Garmin Striker 4. Is this just not a good option at all for our boats?

I don't care about GPS, i've got my phone on a ram mount on the windshield thats right there for that.

I don't have a lot experience or knowledge in fish finders but this product seems to have great reviews. It more of a portable unit and seems you might have problems seeing the screen when your eyes start going like mines.
Like a boat, always buy the biggest you can afford. Ha!
If you are going off shore fishing I would ensure your fish finder has gps in case you don't have cell service.

looks good. This is where mine is.

Finally got my Garmin hooked up and mounted. I want to give a special thanks and shout out to @Benny Sibbitt for his updates and walkthrough on hooking up a fuse box behind the console! I followed suit and it turned out great! Made the Garmin install a piece of cake. I mounted mine to the right side of the Connext screen with a basic Ram mount and the standard swivel base that came with the unit. It fits perfect, doesn't block any line of sight, and doesn't block the Connext screen or dashboard controls. I'm very pleased with the end result. I also want to shout out the woman of the house for squeezing into the areas my big ass wouldn't fit :D

@AndyD That looks awesome. It's the new standard! Regarding the helm storage woman; it wasn't an available option when I bought my 2015 AR240. Was it an expensive option on your 2016?

It was and continues to be the most expensive option year after year. But it comes in handy every trip and is the most useful addition I have :winkingthumbsup"

@AndyD nice work, I love how clean that mount looks, looks good and professional
I wish I had a helper , I felt like I was going get stuck a feel times.

@MrMoose, would it be too much trouble to list a "set of instructions" and a list of parts you used for your install? This in the chartplotter I think I'm buying, and if you've already been through the pain of install, it sure would make my life easier. Thanks in advance...

@dman530. The only parts that I bought were the Ram mounts. There was enough cable length to allow me to splice into the accessory power (the one that looks like a cigarette lighter) behind the helm. The fuse for the helm accessory power is 20 amps, and I think that the in-line fuse that came with the chartplotter was only something like 3 amps, so I figured that it would be safe to splice.
I bought a bunch of Ram mount bits but settled on using these ones for the install:
6" arm: RAM-B-201U-C
Mount for chartplotter: RAM-B-202-G2U
Mount for boat: RAM-B-202U

If I were to do it again, I'd consider using a larger ball size. My Ram mounts have 1" balls. I find that after a some big waves on the way to/from Bimin, the chartplotter settles (moves about a half inch). Although it doesn't impact functionality, it's not a good thing if you're OCD. Maybe a larger ball size would prevent this.

I used a 1 1/2 ram mount ball, haven't tested yet for movement after @MrMoose suggested using a larger ram mount ball.

How is your mount working out? Have it in any big wave conditions yet? I like the location, just worried about screws holding that....and there is no way to through bolt it there....
I have launched the boat a few times and it has been great. A little jiggle from the ram mount but the base bracket i made is rock solid.
If you look at the underside you can see i made the bracket extent forward a few inches to give more mounting area

Did you just use screws, or did you glue it too? I see that you could add more screws if needed....

No glue but yes i could add screws if need be.

3m tape is an added option as well
