Count me in for sucking up a rope. The guy that was watching the rope for some reason wasn't keeping that close of an eye and it went up the starboard side. I was pretty close to the ramp so limped off the lake. I couldn't get the cleanout port open so will need to deal with that. Hopefully it all comes out and no issues.

Why isn't there a grate down there to prevent that? Would it restrict the water?

Basically, yes. There is a grate, but pretty wide. Were it narrow enough to prevent a rope, you would get lots of cavitation..

Anyway, welcome to the club! Be sure to collect your trophy.

I wrapped a piece of my rope around my steering wheel and am always saying ROPE just to make sure everyone is looking for it.[flag][flag]

That was a royal PITA. The rope wound so tight it pressed up against the bottom of the cleanout port and could not get that open. So I had to cut it from underneath. Tried to remove the grate underneath but the head on one of the bolts was stripped. Took a bit but I got it out and no harm.

Lesson learned. Not to not forget the rope, but don't trust guests with keeping track.

Agree. Sometimes I feel like a jerk reminding my guests over and over about the rope but until you experience the hassle of cutting it out yourself, you won’t understand.

Saw on another board that if you remove spark plugs it relieves the pressure and allows you to more easily rotate to get rope out/cut

YUP!!!

I advise the "rope manager" that if he/she fails in his job the days boating will be for all intents and purposes be over...and everyone will blame him/her...not to mention the time and aggravation involved with getting the rope out!!!

Is the rope getting sucked up because its attached at the rear of the boat as opposed to the tower or does it happen from both places?

Can happen regardless of where the rope is attached, but it is much easier to SEE the rope when it is attached to the tower, and thus see where is is heading.

Rope was attached to tower. I'm going to try the pool noodle trick I saw in another thread. Won't completely protect but might give some risk reduction.

Now how to I get my idiot rope sucking trophy?
