I have a 2006 Sea Doo Sportster with the famous 951Di (2-stroke direct inject oil and fuel) engine. It has about 125 hours on it and is well kept. I’ve had it six months. I’m having a problem with it and I can’t find a mechanic who will touch it. Can anybody hook me up with a tech who will work on it and is good enough to find and fix the problem? Appreciate any guidance.

Thanks for the feedback ya’ll! So, here’s an explainer on the problem- We bought the boat (2006 Sea Doo Sportster 951Di) in September from the original owner. It was lightly used (94 hours) and garaged kept. Other than false overheat alarms that were remedied by replacing the corroded temperature sensors, this boat has been a great running machine. We’ve put roughly another 30 hours on the boat. However, a couple of months ago it developed an intermittent, but in one sense predictable problem. While running normally, it quits on occasion. You can be running along at 6000 rpm and it will start to lose power, dropping steadily in rpms and finally quitting all together. It will then be difficult to re-start, but will start again and will run as if nothing happened… until it quits again. It sometimes quits while idling away, or back to the ramp or at and any point of operation in between. There is no rhyme or reason to it, i.e. how long it’s been running, the rpm setting or levels in the tanks. Now, here is the odd predictable part: If the ambient temperature is below about 72 degrees, it won’t do it; it runs perfectly. If it’s warm outside, you are guaranteed to have it quit a lot during your cruise but it gets you back to the ramp. Our mechanic has gone over it and through it and found no obvious issues. He’s recommended we get it on a diagnostic computer but we can’t find anybody with a 2-stroke computer who wants to work on the boat. The systems on this boat are ridiculously complicated for a 2-stroke motor. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
