I don’t think he would have gotten the trailer to the ramp without he hitch pin. It sounded like something snapped. It sure seems like he was missing his safety chains, too.

I'm wondering if maybe the hitch coupler came off the ball? Perhaps he forgot to lock it down? I agree that the safety chains would have prevent the trailer from rolling down the ramp.

Oof! Man I can't imagine the stress of ramp life. I'm spoiled from being at a slip on a lake.

So much crazy stuff happens at those ramps

Bet it came off the ball. You can briefly see the tongue jack is deployed. Bet it touched down as he crested the ramp and lifted the unlocked coupler off the ball.

Lots of things have to go wrong there at once for that to happen.

Stressful. How do you recover from that? Power the boat and hope for the best? Makes me think that a tow strap needs to go in the truck….

Don't know if he was coming or going but, maybe he lucked out and connected the bow strap as well as the transom tie downs and the trailer is suspended under the boat. It would not be the first time someone took the trailer with them on a boat ride.

I’ve seen this video before and recall someone pointing out that people do this near them. They live on an island and they do this occasionally when needing to move the trailer between the mainland and the island. You can see he even has it secured to the side cleats. Interesting nonetheless.
