I had a Garmin GPS 546s on my LX210. Installing the sounder was a serious PITA and was at least three hours of me and wife yelling at each other as we tried to fish the giant plug under and around stuff, all while embedding fiberglass in our arms. I'm not about to give my 546s, but I'm perfectly happy to abandon the sounder when I sell the LX. So, I need a replacement harness and sounder for the 212X... or, I need an easy way to get the old one out.
Garmin is pretty adamant that cutting the cable will kill the transducer and I won't be able to re-patch it. Anyone got anything that says otherwise? If not, I can just get a new one and fish it through again (I think the dual frequency one I have is $85 from Garmin).

Yes...you should be able to buy a replacement sounder that will come with a new cable. Fishing in the newer models isn't as tight as the LX210....but it will still give you a fiberglass rash!
