Hello, West Marine sales guy sold me this Garmin echoMap 50dv 5" chart plotter/fish finder with DownVu scanning sonar that includes 10hz GPS and preloaded BlueChart g2 US coastal map unit today, and shared it would be on sale next week for $349.00 I paid $499.99 and will get the price adjusted next week for the sale. A gentleman was buying one in front of me, and did his research saying with the transducer and maps loaded on it was a good buy at the $349.00 price. West Marine sales guy said a new model is coming out, and they would not have many left of this model.

Now if I only knew where to tell the dealer to mount the Garmin on the 2015 242 Ls tomorrow??? Ideas?

Looks like a good deal! Thanks for sharing!

My guess is the dealer would have the best idea of where to mount it out of all the options. My '12 is a different dash and I have the echo map 70S. I also ordered a thru hull transducer as the included transom mount was not appropriate for the transom on my boat without it being in the way. Just things to consider...congrats on both the boat and the purchase!

Just picked mine up this morning. Awesome deal $349 includes transducer and g2 map preloaded. I would hurry. They are selling out fast.

Any idea how fast you can go and still get an accurate reading on the depth? I am looking for something to give an accurate reading at around 30 mph. Also is the Potomac River included on the maps? Thanks

You can go WOT and full cruise and should be able to get a consistent reading, except in reverse where the water is disturbed. But a thru hull will probably give even reverse readings.

Are the thru-hull transducers as accurate and as good showing the image as transom mounted?

I can't answer that, but the transom mount are certainly more prone to disturbances than the thru hull. Now that said, the transom mount are probably much better for the side viewing transducers than a thru hull. Hope this helps.

I went and got mine Sunday. well have to wait, on back order. Please post pictures and location of transducer when installed. Thanks,

Here is mine installed, but it is not working well at all.... I dont know if I need to move it up a little bit or what, but anything outside of a no wake speed does not read......

I had a fear that mounting on that face wouldn't get the transducer in the water. It has sit 1/4" below the very lowest point of the hull. And you can see that it is above that line as the transom drain plug is on the lowest transom face. If the bracket won't let you lower it below that lower section, you will have to move it. It is probably in turbulent water where it is mounted.

Yeah, I can see that now, I only did this after reading this thread, https://jetboaters.net/threads/the-jetboat-fishing-mod-and-rigging-guide.4498/#post-76602

Hopefully @utahrd will see this and let me know that his DOES work while moving at speed and can provide more pictures of his transducer mounted and it will help me solve this problem... I just need to know how low or high I should have the transducer mounted in relation to that point.

If the mount will allow you to lower it, just put a straightedge on the line of the hull front to back, extended out from under the hull toward the transducer. Just lower it until it is 1/4" below the line of the hull. I don't know if you can see it, but @utahrd 's transducer hangs considerably lower in that picture, even though it is mounted in the same spot. I think you will find good readings after you lower it below the waterline.
