My brother gave me a Garmin Striker Plus 9sv for my birthday. I have not yet had it out to the boat yet to play with where to put it, but I am struck that the thing is HUGE! Probably 2/3 the size of the dash.

Anyone put one of these on an AR240? Where did you put it? I am thinking it may need to go above the dash, attached to the top of it...

Hearing nothing, I am attempting to answer myself (and recording here for posterity). Went to the boat and played with a few different options. Believe this is the one that will work:
IMG_20190414_141553.jpg

Plan is to put angle irons on the bracket that came with it, so that the bracket lays parallel to the top of the dash, then affix the angle irons to the dash. When standing at the helm, the only thing this blocks is my view of the back of the head of whoever is sitting in front of me.

Pardon the messy boat. Haven't cleaned for the season yet.

More details to follow.

Sorry no one responded. Regardless of merit some posts take off and others languish.

I got one for Christmas and plan to do the install soon on my AR230.

Mostlly concerned with the Transducer placement (it’s huge) and wire routing.

I am not going to waste my time trying to find a permanent mounting for the display (again huge) so I will be using my Ram Ball arm with a suction cup mount I was using with my IPAD and Navonics software.

When I get started I will post

Good luck with your install

I mounted a Garmin 63cv on my SX210. The best method for me was using a RAM mount on the right side of the dash.

Thanks, guys. Yeah, I tried to see if I could Ram mount it somewhere, but even that seemed a challenge with this beast. I actually think I will like it where planned... Will update you!

So I can find a pic but I mounted my garmin's 74sv monitor on the dash on the left side using a seersucker suction mount to the windshield and a small u bolt on one of the window supports. It has never moved. Easy to see... and easy to remove if I need to. It doesn't block my view when I sit down and no holes were drilled in the dark. And it doesnt co er up anything... I'll see if I can locate a pic but I will be cleaning the boat this afternoon and I can get a pic then if needed.

Awesome! Thanks for the ideas, guys! Will have to test fit on the other side with the Ram Mount (have one already). Don't have the dash space as @Wes514 has (with the nice space below to mount), but also a good idea. Appreciate the help! Will keep you posted.

Here is how i put my Garmin up.

That's a large screen, I placed the 64CV on the dash by removing the tachs. A 7" screen may just fit, if you wanted to trade down your Garmin.

Yesterday installed the transducer...

That is as far as I got yesterday. Next up getting that cable up front. Then I tackle putting the box on.

Take some pictures of how you route the cable upfront I'd like to see how you do it. thinking about doing something like that myself.

Report number next:

Went out tonight to pull the cable forward so I can use the boat this weekend. Extra detail and pics provided on this step as requested...

Need to pull the tray to get access to the far starboard side of the compartment.
IMG_20190529_202418.jpg
This is looking in the engine compartment, starboard side. See the little hole in the aft wall? Find that on the other side and push the cable through. Then feed it through the wall to the starboard side.
IMG_20190529_204940.jpg
This is under the aft starboard cushion, looking aft. That rats nest is where your cable will emerge.
IMG_20190529_203452.jpg
I climbed back in that compartment, head first. Lying on my back...

Push the zip tie and it will release. I pulled off the remote cable, replaced it with my new remote cable and the transducer cable. Both fit fine. Then pushed the zip tie together for a clean install.
IMG_20190529_210107.jpg
Looking up, moving forward...
At the forward of the compartment, just tug the little wall there and it pops right out.
IMG_20190529_210637.jpg
At this point I moved to the helm compartment. I used my fish stick (green here) with the wire mesh attachment. Push that aft where shown. One length was enough, pushed all the way.
IMG_20190529_210739.jpg

Just pull through from there.

Unfortunately the cable will only make it about mid way up the helm. Not enough to travel to the unit. Will need the extension cable...

To be continued.

So, first I pulled the dash. Black screws around the circumference of gauges, then a gentle push from the back and out it comes. Then there are two nuts on bolts in the roof of the helm compartment, which allows removal of the top of the dash:

Test fitting where it will go with the dash off:

Four drill holes later...

Actually quite pleased that the holes are almost invisible. Four bolts secure the L brackets to the dash:

Tried longer bolts; later had to replace them with shorter ones--the longer ones didn't fit. Fender washers on the topsides; lock washers on the bottom sides.

Reinstall the entire dash unit...
IMG_20190607_202316.jpg

I routed the wires forward of the unit and around and under the dash. The electrical connections were so simple I didn't even photo them. I have an electrical block; black to negative and red to positive and...

And it seems to work:

Can't wait to get it on the water to try it.

End of report!

So how did it do? Did that transducer location work well at speed?

Took it out yesterday (cousins were in town--from up north where they are not used to this heat, so the trip was cut a bit short).

Seemed to do very well, actually. I got depth even at WOT and enough for the unit to create a plot with 1' accuracy. Still learning to read the thing a bit, but I was getting decent images even at 20-25 mph. At no wake the resolution was very high.

Need to take it out again (probably alone) to go play with it, but so far so good. Do wish it had charts, tho...

Ok, does anyone have one of these beasts? I can't get the ActiveCaptain to work properly for the life of me. And their customer service is proving worthless. All they seem to be able to do is quote from the manual, which does not match what is happening anywhere on any screen. Very frustrating.

Drain? Sorry; I didn't install a drain. At least I don't think I did... You mean the bilge plug there? That is stock.

How did you like the install now that you have used it for a while?
