My first bill from Citi arrived, after the transition from Amex. I noticed an interest charge on it. I pay my bill in its entirety every month, so there should not have been any interest accrued.
I called them, and the rep I spoke with said that my payment was not cleared until the 18th, and was due on the 17th. I pulled up my records, and advised him that my check cleared on the 6th. That's a 12 day discrepancy. He then pulled up another screen, that showed it was received on the 6th, but not cleared until the 18th (Which obviously is not true, since the funds were taken out on the 6th). My situation was resolved, but how many millions of people (especially that carry a balance) will not notice?
Hopefully mine was an isolated incident, but somehow I doubt it. Could be big.
Check your statements folks.
