Last week while installing some new toys, and doing spring maintenance, I came across the need to utilize the YDS setup I had purchased for previous Yamaha's. it always worked fine on my AR210 and the 212X, with zero hiccups. Well every time I plugged this thing into the 242 (the connectors are behind the helm BTW) it would error out on an ECM Communication fault.. After much research I figured out that the tachs and factory displays were interfering with the communications between my computer and the ECM.. so I disconnected the 3 cables to the back of each tachometer and voila, YDS worked like a charm! Discovered I had a few stored error codes, way less hours than I thought, read and cleared everything, all systems normal. Ready to ride.

Good to know! #YDS Will add this to the FAQ!

I thought the 24' models all had hour meters in the tachs? Wonder which year that was introduced in??

That's a good tip about using the YDS. Was the reading different than that on the gagues?

they do have hour meters in them, I just thought I had over 120 but its actually only 79-80... I must have been thinking about my 212x..

im gonna try it on a buddies 2012 AR210 this week sometime, see if it reads his ECM's too.

The service manual shows connecting the YDIS to the harness at the access holes over the port engine.

wonder what the ports in the helm are for then.. I never opened the access hole in the engine compartment.

Not sure. I don't think mine has them.

I have a 2012 242 limited and I found some ports that fit behind the helm and none behind the round engine compartment access panels. Now I havent ACTUALLY had successful communication between the engines and the computer yet, but I think I have the right hookups. Gonna try disconnecting from the instrument panel as described by the OP above. Thanks to all for your help.
