Been raining here for hours and we have hours more yet to come!

We had a tree in the front yard that we'd called a tree guy about as it wasn't looking good. Well the wind took care of it.

The plus side....we don't have to pay to have it taken down. The down side, it crushed a tree my wife got for her birthday...

@Julian Bummer Julian, even in RD, you hate to lose a tree. Looks like lots of water on the ground too. Batten down the hatches and sorry about the tree!

Yeah, and that thing just isn't going anywhere fast. I hope everyone is safe that has been along the path.

All that rain really makes the ground soft. Hopefully that is the only damage you will have!

My wife was just stanfiandingnin our pourch talking on the phone when a giant old oak tree behind our neighbors house fell.. that thing had to have been 60 years old.. and boom! We couldn't help but slowly start looking at the trees surrounding our house!

Yeah....been watching the rest of our trees since that one went down! The 80-100 foot pines trees always look like they are going to go....

@Julian Did that tree have mushrooms growing out of the trunk base?

and..... what weather app is that?

@Murf'n'surf no Mushrooms growing out of the base....but it wasn't a well tree as you can see from this photo. It was a Sycamore, and they often rot at the base (which is why Indians used to use them for making canoes).

You can see from the stacked logs that the base was compromised:

Not as bad at the top...but still some brownishness to the wood....

Be safe.... family down in MBeach got nailed....

No offense....I hate Sycamore trees....so messy.

Not sure this is making national news or not, but the flooding here in NC is the worst in recorded history. The last record was set by Hurricane Floyd and waters in some places are now 1 foot HIGHER than Floyd. Towns like Princeville NC have 80% of their houses flooded! 19 counties are eligible for Federal disaster aide.

If you ever get a nice hollow log from the base of the tree (2ft long), on your next bon fire get some coals nice and hot and stand the hollow log up on top of it, the log will darken and cool the area close to the fire and you'll get a jet engine flame pumping out the top to give light, after it's burnt it's middle up the outside will start glow until it falls apart.
