Hi, if you have the Yamaha contour (hull hugger) fenders, or something similar to them, would you buy them again? Do they work as well as a regular fender? Are there any advantages over a regular fender? Do they store better? How many do you have? My sense is that they may not work as well in terms of settling down into the position that you want them to be in if it is windy or rough conditions. I could see the shape catching more wind and flopping around more than the standard bumper.
Thanks for sharing.

We have four hull hugger and two 8" fenders on board. The 8" fenders are rarely used. The hull huggers are small to store and stay in place. The 8" fenders only get used if we need greater separation from a poorly constructed dock.

We have cedar docks with the poles on the exterior of the dock and I have found that the hull-huggers aren't thick enough to do a good job of keeping the poles off of the hull, so I would not buy them again for that reason.

No I wouldn't buy them again. No substitute for big fluffy fenders.

They serve a purpose, but are not good in all purposes...

I have 2 or 3 along with the suction cup straps and use them quite a bit when needing something additional between 2 boats for added protection here/there. They are skinny, so like @d_coyne1984 stated they tend to not work that well with docks if the poles are on the outside. When it comes to docking, etc I use my 8" Taylor Made bumpers. Also you are right they will get blown around in the wind if they are not pinched between the boat and whatever you are tied to.

I would buy them again for the uses I have used them for.

I too have the hull-huggers and have mixed feelings about them... they are easy to store, but they are too light and flop around when I don't want them to flop around...

PLUS... i think they have scratched the hull where their stitched corners have been compressed against a dock... jury is out on them.

Thank to everyone who replied. I think that I'll go with the standard ones.

I found the fabric on them caught docks or the rub rails to easily and they would ride up and out of the way....thus not much use....I gave mine away.
