This is the begining of my 3rd year.. on the lake yesterday i felt the starboard engine cavitate for a moment when throttlin20170528_190944.jpg 20170528_190944.jpg 20170528_190829.jpg 20170528_190820.jpg g up.. i pulled back power and tried again and it was fine.. today while sitting in my driveway i saw trash hanging out from the bottom of the starboard engine.. decided to pull the pump for the first time. Was pine needles and a few small twigs in the intake grate but found nothing in the impeller.. being this is my first time anyone see anything to raise major alarms?

Yeah. See that little nick in the leading edge? That is why I have not pulled mine yet. I bet mine have 50 of those. And I would then have to fix them.

I think I am better off just running the boat until it tells me something is wrong.

Sincerely,

a fake man

It has been like that since we got it.. i alway thought it was made like that untill i look closer and the threads are bent right up to the connecting hardware.

Yeah, methinks that is not right... Someone hit something with that jet, I bet. You can probably adjust around it, but ultimately something that probably should be replaced.

The nick in the impeller can cause cavitation. If it was up to me I'd wait until the end of the season and send the impellers to Impros. I sent mine to them at the end of 2016 and for $138 they refurbished them like new. Quick turn-around too.

I don't have a vice or the tool to remove the impellers from the drive shaft so I took them to my Yamaha dealer who pulled the impellers, then days later reinstalled them on the drive shafts for me.

I bent one of those when I sucked up a rope that was right to tower
My bend was much worse but I was able to straighten it with some clamps

If yours isn't giving you problems I would leave it

No but the scrap marks on the dent place are shinny... so i think i did it on sat.. it may not jave had time to show signs yet.

I have never pulled mine (yet), but Loctite would seem reasonable to me...

Yes, but you also don't want those getting loose. Especially if there are not lock washers on there, I would put Loctite Blue (the one that is removable).

They are threaded such that you don't need to be concerned with impellers getting loose. They are damn hard to remove without locktite. I would recommend something to keep it from seizing up.

I do not recommend any type of thread lock. I do recommend some thing that seals the threads from water but is easy to unscrew like Teflon pipe dope.

I agree with Buck.....I use copper anti-seize.

Does anyone put anything on the threads when they reassemble the pumps.. lock tight or something?

According to the service manual we should use moly grease on the spline of the impeller shaft and high temp thread sealant on the various bolts. That is what I do.
